YOKOTA AIR BASE, Japan The commander of U.S. Forces Japan has declared a public health emergency for U.S. military bases on the Kanto Plain in and around Tokyo.
The declaration Monday afternoon ensures commanders possess the necessary authorities to enforce compliance health protection measures among military, civilians, and contractors who live and work on U.S. installations, a USFJ statement said. The guidance will be in effect until at least May 5.
Lt. Gen. Kevin Schneider, USFJ commander, said in the statement that protecting the health and safety of everyone associated with USFJ is his No. 1 priority.
I cannot underscore enough the importance of personal responsibility at a time like this, he said. Stopping the spread of [the coronavirus] requires the entire team service members, civilians, families, and our Japanese partners. The virus makes no exceptions based on military or civilian status, and our policies and procedures wont either.

(24,051 posts)...active duty tour with the Air Fore nurse corps. 1978 and 1979. I left in early January of 1980. My husband and I met there - Air Force pilot who was my next door neighbor in the BOQ. A very special 2 years that I look back on with enormous fondness.
Tiny base hospital that would in no way be able to cope with a lot of seriously ill in-patients. Complicated patients were sent to the big Navy base at Yokosuka. No ICU, just a labor&delivery unit, and a mixed med-surg floor. A couple of ORs. Lots of dorms for the enlisted folks, with no kitchens so troops had to eat in the dining halls - that would make elf-quarantine next-to-impossible.

(24,051 posts)Seeing as I have been furloughed from my nurse practitioner job, I am lingering in bed in the mornings. Had my iPad on my chest. I think I will just leave it as is in case anyone else needs a chuckle - who amongst us doesn't just now. I will correct the lower case "i" in my OP.

(4,474 posts)Images of Legolas sitting atop Isengard while a grumpy Gimli sits at the bottom of the tower jumped into my mind.
I can see it now, Gimli singing a traditional dwarven song:
"You can my elf, you take my elf control..."
