Georgia beaches reopen after governor's executive order

Source: The Hill

Some Georgia beaches will reopen this weekend following an executive order issued by Gov. Brian Kemp (R) that overrode local shelter-in-place mandates from a number of cities.

A spokesperson for Kemp told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution that the order would allow popular beaches in Georgia, such as Tybee Island, to reopen after they had closed because of local measures aimed at limiting the community spread of COVID-19.

"The Governor's Executive Order suspends the enforcement of any local ordinance or order adopted or issued since March 1, 2020, that relates to COVID-19," said Josh Hildebrandt, director of public and governmental affairs for the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR).

"This Executive Order thus lifted any local ordinances or orders that had closed or restricted access to Georgia beaches," superseding local government blocks and opening all beaches in Georgia, Hildebrandt added.

In case anyone missed it, this is the same dumb ass who said he just now learned that the corona-virus can spread while someone is asymptomatic.

Everyone, call or email this asshole as well as any and all Georgia legislators and let them know how ignorant this is.

But they completely fail to see how one person's choices can impact lots of other people who didn't choose to put themselves at risks.

It's the conservative mindset. They'd rather fall back on racism and blaming foreigners than change their behavior to limit community spread. Liberals totally don't see a stay home order as an attack on our American freedoms but as a sensible safety precaution to help our elderly and vulnerable.

They will blame Democrats when they inevitably die because they listen
to hate radio, Fox Opinion and grafting preachers.

Fundies already consider that he is a herald of the second coming.

He had them when he gave Israel permission to continue the Palestinian genocide.

They want him to "smite" the "others" never noticing that they are the anvil for this

But no,these knuckle draggers will then go other places after not letting a socialist Guberment tell them good ole boys what to do. Then the infected and the dead increase.

People always bag on Kansas as being "backward". Our Democrat Gov Laura Kelly has had a stay at home and only essential business open Executive Order now for weeks back when FatNixon was still saying warn weather would be the end of CV. If she would have lost in 2018 we'd have KKKris Kobach as our Gov and EVERYTHING would be open.

for knee jerk responses to all openings. The order requires social distancing of at least 6 feet,
no placement of tents or chairs and enforcement of No Congregation Laws by LEO or reports to
same. The main advantage is to allow people to walk and exercise.

Who abused his power as Secretary of State to get himself elected acts as though he has some overwhelming mandate to play God in Georgia. The idiot took the power away from local mayors to make the best decision for their municipalities. As if beach closures are something mayors of beach towns take lightly.

He needs to read this from the LA Times and then decide whether he’s handed local authorities an added headache: https://www.latimes.com/california/story/2020-04-02/coronavirus-ocean-swimming-surfing-safe-beaches-los-angeles *

Ya know, because mayors really need more disease-spreading variables to worry about right now.

Per the logic in that LA Times article, is the state government of Georgia monitoring water quality in a timely way since SARS type viruses have been shown to survive in waters tainted with bacteria associated with sewage? Glancing at their beach reporting website I’d argue they are not diligent in testing, nor are they applying consistent quality limits from one site to another: http://coastalgadnr.org/HealthyBeaches

I wouldn’t fish, boat, or reserve a 150 seat pavilion in King’s Ferry park, then again, maybe the water is cleaner than the last time it was tested on 1/14/2020. Tybee Island beaches have a range of results from mid March, and wonder if the state will check the water quality anytime soon?

I think kemp is asking for lawsuits if there’s a spike in Coronavirus cases in the next three weeks from the towns he overruled to reopen beaches.

The young trumpers will take this as absolute permission and cram onto the beach and the infections will just get worse. I live 35 miles from the GA border and there are tons of people who live in GA and work in Jax. Each of these could now be a locus of infection and spread it over both states. Too bad it's not just the asymptomatic trumpers who cause this who will die, although one can hope for a karma solution for them as well.
