LAS VEGAS (AP) Homeless people in Las Vegas have been directed to sleep in rectangles painted on the pavement in a makeshift parking lot camp as a way to limit the spread of the coronavirus, a move that is stirring outrage by some on social media.
Former Obama administration housing chief Julian Castro suggested in a post on Twitter that the city's homeless should be temporarily placed in empty hotel rooms.
Added actress Alyssa Milano in a tweet: In Las Vegas, homeless people are sleeping on concrete floor of a parking lot six feet apartwhile all the hotel rooms are empty."
The white-lined patches of pavement were created by officials in the city known for its hospitality after a homeless shelter closed when a man staying there tested positive for the coronavirus.

(5,256 posts)This was going to be good news, but I didn't read or think carefully.
In fact, this is an atrocity. Use one of those vacant hotels!!!!!!!! And when we emerge from this crisis, build housing for these people!! They're Americans and human beings too!

(7,543 posts)They normally have to spend half the day in line to secure a spot at the shelter for the night, which means it's not possible to both work and stay at the shelter. The location they chose to relocate to is the parking lot of an empty baseball stadium called Cashman Field. Recall that the city also recently passed a 'blanket law' that prohibits the homeless from camping, six months, $1000 fine.
The state went wholly blue, but idiots have taken over the city council.
