Man dies after ingesting chloroquine in an attempt to prevent coronavirus
Source: NBC News
An Arizona man has died after ingesting chloroquine phosphate believing it would protect him from becoming infected with the coronavirus. The man's wife also ingested the substance and is under critical care.
The man's wife told NBC News she'd watched televised briefings during which President Trump talked about the potential benefits of chloroquine. Even though no drugs are approved to prevent or treat COVID-19, the disease caused by the coronavirus, some early research suggests it may be useful as a therapy.
The name "chloroquine" resonated with the man's wife, who asked that her name not be used to protect the family's privacy. She'd used it previously to treat her koi fish. "I saw it sitting on the back shelf and thought, 'Hey, isn't that the stuff they're talking about on TV?'"
The couple both in their 60s and potentially at higher risk for complications of the virus decided to mix a small amount of the substance with a liquid and drink it as a way to prevent the coronavirus.

Just another death caused by the Misinformer-in-Chief. Rachel is right, they really should not be broadcadting his press conferences live.

I've seen people comparing this to Jonestown, and it's really not the same. The people at Jonestown were forced to drink the poison. There were gunmen standing around - Jonestown gunmen killed Leo Ryan and wounded Jackie Speier. This was a couple in their own home, relatively safe and healthy, no immediate threat, but told to disregard REAL safety information from experts, and followed a lie.
Every time Trump opens his delusional irrational mouth, he is causing death.

It would be different if this was an actual medication that people may have sitting at the house. Like if it has been a heart medicine or something.

(3,051 posts)It's chloroquine. The common (and safer) version of the drug cited by Turnip is hydroxychloroquine ("HCQ"
HCQ also comes in 150mg pills, not 25g tablets for aquarium cleaning.
Turnip is an idiot, but these people are Darwin candidates.
Turnip's idiocy aside, HCQ is very, very promising from trials in France.
It's also interesting to note that Africa as relatively few cases of CV19 despite lots of Chinese workers (managers in plants), most likely due to travelers (Chinese) taking HCQ before and after working in Africa.
Turnip is, and remains, the luckiest human on the planet. He stumbled into wealth, has a lovely family (politics aside), stumbled into the presidency, and apparently lucked into a cure for CV19.
Don't like him, but I'll take his luck on this one.

(3,051 posts)And so is sulfa in place of penicillin (not really, but I'm making a point).
But those are secondary choices if someone starts to have problems with HCQ (for example, if someone has vision problems from HCQ after years of chronic use for something like RA or lupus.)
Been so since WWII.

(20,870 posts)dump has loads of blood on his hands already due to calling COVID-19 a hoax. Many listened to this and still believe it today.
These people are stupid fools to believe a con man like dump, but they did/do anyway.
These loyal followers are just as guilty as dump himself, making them accomplices to murder.
If we live through this, I for one hope to see the day that all of these dangerous criminals end up in a special COVID-19 prison where they belong already.
Great harm is being done to people around the world for listening to and believe this invalid information from Don the Con.
How many more will die by using this drug unnecessarily and that includes those that need it and can no longer get it being some rich doctor out there made sure he had all he wanted for himself, his family and his peers only to be perhaps become sickened themselves and dying because of their insatiable greed?

(23,987 posts)...in shoeboxes are labeled Do Not Eat. As is pretty much anything and everything that is not meant to cross human lips.
When our sons were little, we bought a big inner tube to use at the lake. It was colorful, and did rather resemble a large frosted donut with sprinkles. On the outside of the box were many cautions, one of which was Do Not Eat. Even tho it looked like a giant donut, it was clearly made of plastic and did not look in the least edible.
The fact that the warning was on the outside of box likely means that someone must have tried eating one.
