Hawaii airports planning to mandate 14-day home quarantine for incoming residents and visitors
Source: Honolulu Star Advertiser
Hawaii airports will begin mandating a 14-day quarantine for both residents and visitors coming to the islands, according to Lt. Gov. Josh Green.
Green told the Honolulu Star-Advertiser today that the Airports Division of the state Department of Transportation is working up a plan to only allow individuals to come in who will have to home quarantine for 14 days, with the exception of essential and health care workers.
This is something now that can no longer be denied. We have to have a plan that is stricter than we have especially when we see the number of sick individuals in Italy, Green said, adding that the policy should extend at least until April 30. As the health care coordinator on this matter, we have to be safe for our kupuna. Anything short of that would be negligent.

I know it would be a sacrifice, but do it for your countrymen (and women)!

(279 posts)This will effectively shut down our tourism industry. Perhaps for the near future. So many people depend on tourism for their livelihood, this will destroy the local economy. Hopefully the govt. will be able to keep small business and individuals solvent.

(51,623 posts)It would be a smart move for each state to have a lock down/stay home policy and close the borders unless you want to be quarantined for two weeks. Of course it would be even better to issue a country wide lock down and test every person. Use the S Korean model.

(20,510 posts)so i will just point out some of the logistics required for such a move, while agreeing it COULD work. Hawaii would have less of these type issues.
1) Truck drivers/train crews would be limited to one state...kinda like a relay race. Drive to the border, get out, turn truck, train over to new crew, grab the next truck/train going back into the state.
2) Cities like Kansas City (directly on a state border)
I'm sure there are other solvable logistical problems (as opposed to personal "I want to go to..." type problems).
BTW, I think it's time for this:
