3,800 Leave Cruise Ship Unscreened After Former Passenger Tests Positive

Source: Huffington Post/Miami Herald

Some 3,800 passengers were allowed to disembark from a cruise ship in Miami Sunday unscreened for coronavirus, even though a previous passenger had tested positive for the illness, The Miami Herald reported. Many of those passengers went directly to Miami International Airport to head home.

The former passenger departed from the MSC Meraviglia in Miami on March 8 after taking a Caribbean cruise, leaving behind the crew and 103 passengers for the next voyage, according to the Herald. The ship then picked up thousands of additional passengers.

On March 12, Canada’s Public Health Agency informed the cruise line that the passenger had tested positive for COVID-19, the newspaper reported.

After officials received the notice from Canada, MSC Cruises placed seven crew members in isolation; however, everyone else was allowed to leave the ship in Miami. Officials told the Herald that none of the passengers were exhibiting any symptoms.

4. It's all about symptoms now, and I just don't understand it - we're hearing two entirely different

things from the experts. Supposedly the viral load is higher in infected people who are asymptomatic than those showing symptoms, and Singapore and China are saying that there are more people getting the disease from asymptomatic people than from those showing symptoms, but our gov't is acting like you don't have to worry about being around other people unless they are showing symptoms. And now they don't even want to test you unless you are exhibiting symptoms. It's like this is the new soundbite they're all parroting because they don't want people running up the cost of testing for no other reason than that they simply want to be assured they don't have the virus. I mean how many times did Trump say not to get tested if you're not showing symptoms?

A good friend of mine has a son who is an ER doc. He's told her stuff that she is not allowed to tell me, but she did say that things are much worse than we are being led to believe and that they are only letting info out in dribs and drabs because they are concerned about mass panic. What she did feel comfortable telling me is that more healthcare workers are getting sick than we are hearing about. And a bit of good news - there is supposedly some paper out that is saying the higher temps combined with high humidity will make it harder for the virus to survive. So places like South Florida may see an abatement. But, since this is so new and information is evolving so rapidly, I don't know what to believe anymore.

Make Americans Die Needlessly Again

The party of Freedom and Patriotism really wants to spread it around don't they? (the virus, not freedom or patriotism)

I've estimated numbers a few ways, and really don't want to post the worst of them. They're real outliers. I used the 1918 flu fallout and found world population to be about 4x larger today, 3 waves of COVID-19, foulups, adjust for older populations, assume more than 80% of people get it. Off the charts.

I don’t understand how people feel that they are invincible. I’m trying to do the right things regarding the virus, but I’m at the mercy of idiots who just don’t care.

At the time we went there hadn't been any known cases in the US (although we know now that tRump was suppressing test results), at that point it was only China. The cruise line we were on was not allowing anyone to board who'd been to China recently.

At this time I think it's irresponsible for cruise lines to continue operations as normal.

Now that red don's malfeasance has precluded containment, and there is no effective large-scale response, health officials just want to let this run through the population in order to build herd immunity?

the cruise ship company didn't want the ship under quarantine because of cost. so they cut them loose.

people can argue all sorts of reasons, but at the end of the day, the cruise ship company chose money over peoples health.

very republican of them.
