United States approves coronavirus test in race to boost screening capacity

Source: Reuters

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration issued emergency authorization for a coronavirus test made by Swiss diagnostics maker Roche (ROG.S), a move aimed at boosting screening capacity to help contain the growing epidemic.

The tests provide results in 3.5 hours and can produce up to 4,128 results in 24 hours, Roche said on Friday.

“Roche is committed to delivering as many tests as possible and is going to the limits of our production capacity,” Roche said.

The FDA’s Emergency Use Authorization allows the tests to be deployed in markets including the United States as well as others accepting the CE mark signifying they conform to European directives.

You know the ones that are heavily regulated price and profit wise by the Swiss government so they give what Paul Krugman calls “boring but safe and reasonable” profits and investments. Yet our unregulated vulture pharma companies who whine constantly that they need to pillage the patient price wise in order to “spur innovation” seem incapable of handling the task. Sort of blows up their steaming load of BS that they absolutely must not be subject to any price regulation at all ever.🤬

here in Europe.

Roche needs to set up manufacturing facilities in North America, and worldwide, to even begin to cover the demand.
