Girl, 11, brings AR-15 to Idaho hearing on gun legislation

Source: ABC News

BOISE, Idaho -- An 11-year-old girl toting a loaded AR-15 assault weapon appeared Monday with her grandfather, who is supporting legislation that would allow visitors to Idaho who can legally possess firearms to carry a concealed handgun within city limits.

Charles Nielsen addressed the committee that voted to send the legislation to the full House as Bailey Nielsen stood at his side with the weapon slung over her right shoulder, but did not say anything.

“Bailey is carrying a loaded AR-15,” Charles Nielsen told lawmakers. “People live in fear, terrified of that which they do not understand. She's been shooting since she was 5 years old. She got her first deer with this weapon at 9. She carries it responsibly. She knows how not to put her finger on the trigger. We live in fear in a society that is fed fear on a daily basis.”

<snip>

Opponents say allowing teenagers to carry a concealed weapon without any required training within city limits is a bad idea and could lead to shootings. If the bill becomes law, Idaho would be among a handful of states that allow that type of concealed carry.

For instance - let's say, instead of your Granddaughter, a 19 year old male with face tattoos pointed an AR-15 at you. Would you be afraid?

Let's say he put a round in your arm. Any adrenaline yet?

We all understand that firearms are deadly, and we can't trust strangers not to shoot us with them. Or relatives.

I guess the insurance companies have it all wrong. They charge very high rates for teens because they are statistically a greater risk.

Assault weapons? Oh, that's different.

The AR platform sport utility rifle is practical, modular, adjustable, and relatively lightweight; it is available in different calibers suitable to many types of game.

was the safety off?

where was the gun pointed?

Suppose she tripped.

One of my best friends was killed when I was 13 when he went hunting with a mutual friend of ours... they were walking through a field (my friend was in front - a no no) and the other kid tripped behind him and the gun (a shotgun) went off and killed my friend.

To this day, now 50 years late, I can hear his mother screaming at the funeral.

Idaho prohibits any person under age 18 from possessing any handgun.1 In addition, anyone under age 18 is prohibited from possessing a weapon (defined under state law to include any “pistol, revolver or gun”) unless he or she: 1) has the written permission of his or her parent or guardian to possess the weapon; or 2) is accompanied by his or her parent or guardian while he or she possesses the weapon.2 Any person under age 12 in possession of a weapon must be accompanied by an adult.

My night job, a cashier manager at a gas station, is full of these types. Sometimes, they get loud about gun rights and make dayum sure that I see their 3 percent tattoos. The store is conveniently located next to an expanding country western nightclub...

I've worked in the local bullet factories. The management was proud to display right wing propaganda about how Democratic efforts at gun control had actually increased bullet sales.

My hometown is full of insecure men, immature, sheltered, devoid of romantic inclinations and unworldly. Gluttonous beasts who can't take their greasy hands off their video game controllers for years.

Hence the guns!

"Ma, their coming for my AR-15, they done red flagged me on the internet."

What they don't understand is that this part of America is the last 500 sq. Miles of wilderness in the lower 48 and the world is coming for THEM. The population increase is becoming noticeable.
