Arizona congressional candidate suspends campaign after heroin overdose

Source: Arizona Republic

Chris Taylor, a Safford city councilman who is running for Congress, overdosed on heroin last week and since has suspended his campaign.

The Wednesday incident was a relapse for Taylor, a combat veteran who has battled opioid addiction since high school.

In a written statement, Taylor said he was seeking treatment and not backing away from what happened.

"Today, I have suspended my campaign for the US House of Representatives and am seeking treatment for substance abuse disorder. I will fully cooperate with local authorities on any matters arising from my recent relapse and overdose," Taylor said in a statement to The Arizona Republic on Monday.

and I hope this was his bottom and he manages to get the right kind of help.

I'd also suggest that maybe politics isn't his metier. He needs to make room for a reasonably sober Democrat.

Here's his site, while it lasts: https://www.taylorforarizona.com/ Notice the aggressively masculine font and how concerned he is for the little babies he has no interest in feeding, clothing, or housing. It reads like one of the Kochs came up with it.

I think he'd have to be doped up to be this bad.

From the link in the OP:

Taylor has been seeking the Republican nomination in the 1st Congressional District, which is currently represented by incumbent Rep. Tom O'Halleran, an Arizona Democrat in his second term.

Not a big deal that he's Republican. I hope the incumbent D can stay in when the replacement R comes forward.

It's not what you want from someone who could be needed to save lives.

Your body has recovered and your tolerance has reset and you no longer know the proper amount for the new state of one's body.

It's esp. common with heroin because taking it is a big ordeal that involves stabbing yourself ... not like smoking or sniffing where you can just 'take more' conveniently. People tend to want to 'take what they're going to take' in one go ...

Add to the fact that heroin is generally of unknown strength to start with ... and it's a recipe for this sort of disaster.

Glad he made it.
