Harvey Weinstein trial verdict: Guilty on two charges, acquitted on others

Source: Washington Post

Feb. 24, 2020 at 11:46 a.m. EST

BREAKING: Harvey Weinstein was found guilty on two charges and acquitted on others in the disgraced movie producer's New York sexual assault case.

Six sexual assault accusers testified against Weinstein, 67, at his trial in a Manhattan court. Weinstein’s lawyers had argued that the women had consensual sexual encounters with the Oscar-winning producer, hoping to get roles or other benefits.

Weinstein has been accused by dozens of women of sexual misconduct. He has a separate criminal case pending in Los Angeles.

This is a developing story. It will be updated.

There’s no doubt he did every single thing he’s accused of.

Judge set them back to, apparently, water down the charges.

He still has a trial in Calif. to deal with soon.

Juries can only determine guilty or not guilty on charges the prosecutors have given them. Period. They can't change charges. The number of men is irrelevant since the decisions were unanimous.

We all should insist on a jury trial by our peers, and it's not like women were excluded. The prosecution team had the opportunity to reject jurors they didn't approve of, or jurors who they thought would be biased. This is a win, both for the state against Harvey Weinstein, the #MeToo movement, and for abused women everywhere.

Juries can't 'water down charges,' they can only find you guilty or not guilty.

And it's not like he got off scot free, he's going to be spending at least 10 years in jail for this.

If the prosecutors failed to prove the case beyond a reasonable doubt, that's on them, not the jury.

2. Update
Mon Feb 24, 2020, 12:53 PM
Feb 2020
The jury determined that Weinstein forced a sex act on former production assistant Mimi Haleyi at his apartment in July 2006 and raped former aspiring actress Jessica Mann at a hotel in 2013.

He was found not guilty of the most severe charge, predatory sexual assault, which would have acknowledged a pattern that included forcing sex on actress Annabella Sciorra in 1993 or 1994 and would have carried a sentence of 10 years to life in prison.

The top conviction count could yield up to 25 years in prison.

For Harvey, 25 years would be a life sentence. (Not that he'll serve even a third of that. Won't somebody pleeeeeease think of the convicted rapist who is also a white guy?)

I saw where the charges included that he used his size to force himself on the women. That helps explain the walker - trying to make himself look smaller and less imposing?

Rot in hell Harvey.

Does he condemn Weinstein and attempt to link him to "Hollywood liberal Democrats"?

Or does he sign a pardon for the piece of shit and award him a Medal of Freedom, while alternately laughing about sexual assault and crying about "witch hunts", in order to "trigger the libs" again?
