Trump was not told coronavirus-infected Americans would be flown home from cruise ship

Source: Washington Post

President Trump grew furious with senior advisers this week over a decision to allow 14 Americans who tested positive for coronavirus to return to the United States from Japan after being assured that infected patients would remain in quarantine overseas, according to administration officials.

Trump and the administration’s coronavirus task force were told last Saturday that Americans who had spent weeks in quarantine aboard the Diamond Princess luxury liner where the virus had spread to hundreds of passengers would be brought home on two chartered planes — but that patients who had symptoms or the infection itself would stay in Japan.

Trump was briefed on the decision and agreed that healthy passengers should not be on the plane with sick ones, three senior administration officials said. But the State Department and a top U.S. health official ultimately decided to bring back the 14 Americans who tested positive for the virus on the planes and place them in isolation — without informing the president first.

Trump has since had several calls with top White House officials to say he should have been told, that it should have been his decision ...

NO WAY SHOULD ANY OF THIS BE HIS DECISION. This should be the decision of MEDICAL personnel, MDs, infectious disease specialists, etc.

REMEMBER THAT THIS FAT FUCK IS AN ANTI-VAXXER, TOO.

State Department overrode the CDC.

And some DUers were upset at the decision, as well.

As for "should", that's not always the same as "legal." If all executive power is vested in a president, and the CDC is part of the executive branch, it derives its authority from that office.

knowledge, background and on-hands experience from working in those fields for decades. Last I checked there were NO infectious disease control specialists on the roster over at Foggy Bottom.

trump wants to have ultimate total control and power over everything. His qualifications for many of these decisions is ZERO.

are undermined every step of the way? I mean, actual functioning corporations and not some rinky-dink mom and pop outfit? No wonder he has to suck up {ahem) to his Russian overlord for money 'cause there ain't no way a person could make a dime running a corporation like this.

How many times do we have to read the words that he is furious about something? I wish someone with an actual backbone would say so fucking what. Maybe Hope Hicks will stop some of this until the election. Or start giving him special "Vitamin B" shots, like Hitler's doctor did every morning. Keep him too stoned to care.

... there is a majority of competent, intelligent, civil servants doing their jobs capably, regardless of the lack of leadership or the lack of rational leadership.

I think the old Army words are, "continue to march".

germophobe. He is terrified of illness and debilitation.

That was the reason why he refused to visit Roy Cohn when he was dying of AIDS.

In this present situation, it isn't so much that Trump wasn't told as much as the new information now allows him to be petrified that the corona virus will spread -- to Mar-a-Lago, Bedminster, the White House. We can all drop dead and it wouldn't matter. Now Trump knows that he can't negotiate with mortality or the specter of it.
