Chinese Coronavirus Cases Rise to More Than 11,700: Virus Update

Source: Bloomberg

China said the number of coronavirus cases topped 11,700 and the U.S. declared a public health emergency in response to the outbreak.

The Trump administration ordered citizens returning from the Hubei province at the center of the outbreak be quarantined for as long as 14 days.

Flights to the U.S. from China will be restricted to seven airports. U.S. carriers have already significantly cut travel to and from the country. Foreign nationals who have been in China recently will be denied entry to the U.S.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention confirmed the U.S. has seven cases, most recently in California. Spain reported its first confirmed case.

7. Some blame Chinese "wet markets"

From Wikipedia:

"Wet markets were traditionally places that sold dead and live animals out in the open. This includes poultry, fish, reptiles, and pigs."

It is thought that this may have provided an opportunity for virus mutation and jumping to humans.

9. Pandemics kill more than wars

In 1918, the Spanish flu wiped out 6% of all humans, and it did it in 18 months. wars take years to kill millions.
Comparing 1918 to today's coronoavirus, this pandemic could kill over 400,000,000 people assuming only 6%.
Let's be real and understand that it could easily surpass 6% and kill off far ore, maybe even a billion people.
We have no means to handle that many bodies, which would start all sorts of diseases and even more death.

Air travel, which is spreading the virus today, did not exist in 1918 but it spread rapidly and voraciously. Today, could escalate with such speed that humanity could never keep step with it.

We have global movement in 12 hours or less today. Pandemics love people sharing and this one has designed itself to share faster, to more people.
