Wuhan, China, is scrambling to build a hospital in just 6 days to treat coronavirus patients

Source: Business Insider

The Chinese city of Wuhan is rushing to build a new hospital within six days to treat patients of the coronavirus that has killed at least 26 people across the country and is overwhelming the quarantined city's health system.

...snip...

Doctors in Wuhan have said that people seeking medical attention have waited hours in line, that screening the disease is difficult, that there is not enough protective gear, and that some doctors have been told at times not to go to work over fears they could catch the virus.

Video footage has captured people packed in small hallways waiting for treatment.

Wuhan authorities on Friday said a new, 1,000-bed hospital was being built for coronavirus patients to "address the insufficiency of existing medical resources," the Associated Press reported.

I saw the video of the dozens of bulldozers clearing the ground. It would be cool to watch a sped up video of the 6 days while this "hospital" goes up.

The United States and Britain both deployed prefabricated structures to house troops, though such buildings were never meant to be permanent. In modern times, homes can be build with structurally insulated panels (SIP) that are essentially two pieces of wood sandwiching a foam core and stacked on top of each other like legos. SIP panels are usually 8 feet high and between 4 and 24 feet wide.

That said, I suspect this hospital will be closer in quality to my first example than my second one.

You don't use excavators to clear overburden. This is either propaganda or that hospital isn't going to be done in 6 years.

And build out the interior? It seems ridiculous to build a hospital from the ground up.

There must be something more to this virus than public health authorities are letting on.

with residential and other sky rises that sit empty?

Why could said empty cities be converted to hospital space and livin areas for the afflicted?

As recent as 2019 there were as many as twelve empty CITIES in China. Capable of housing hundreds of thousands; and the infrastructure required to support such a population.

Once they have gone through quarantine. That would be easier than trying to make sure every surface in an already contaminated city is cleaned.

Of course, that is if this really is a truly horrendous plague situation - which we really do not know. And by the time we do know, it may be too late even with that kind of extraordinary measure.

I doubt that the situation is that dire or will be, though.
