Sex is for married heterosexual couples only, says Church of England

Source: The Guardian

The Church of England has stated that sex belongs only within heterosexual marriage, and that Christians in gay or straight civil partnerships should be sexually abstinent.

Bishops have issued pastoral guidance in response to the recent introduction to mixed-sex civil partnerships, which says: “For Christians, marriage – that is, the lifelong union between a man and a woman, contracted with the making of vows – remains the proper context for sexual activity.”

The church “seeks to uphold that standard” in its approach to civil partnerships, and “to affirm the value of committed, sexually abstinent friendships” within such partnerships.

It adds: “Sexual relationships outside heterosexual marriage are regarded as falling short of God’s purpose for human beings.”

28. Why can't religion grow up?
Thu Jan 23, 2020, 01:12 PM
Jan 2020

Because logic and critical thinking are SOOOOO over rated. As is science.

"Growing" up (which implies change and progression, dare I say evolution?, and would INCLUDE science) is the antithesis of religion. To "grow up" is the last thing religion will countenance.

THINKING people who question would delegate religion, all inclusive, to the dustbin of history.

Religion may have evolved as an effort to explain what SEEMED un-explainable, and to delegate females as subservient, nothing more than property (check it out, marrying for LOVE is a very recent construct). But it is now nothing more than a thought control mechanism, but strangely enough, still primarily for sex.

Which is odd, since sex has been going on since multiple celled organisms existed. On a historical scale, religion happened yesterday. And we are much the worse for it.

As I have stated in a older post, it takes no guidance what-so-ever to realize that you treat others the way you would like to be treated. So there is really NO justification for the god(s) myth(s).

I doubt "God" would say he/she created us for the purpose of having heterosexual sex inside of a marriage.

If I were to create an ant-farm that I could watch, judge and toy with from above, I'd want the most interesting ant-farm I could achieve and would welcome uniqueness, the unusual and, yes, the abominable. Way more fun to observe.

But I'm an atheist, so what do I know.

Who founded the church so he could annul his first marriage, then executed his second wife so he could marry his mistress - all this before three more marriages.

The church of England has sooo much moral authority on the topic of marriage.

You have some of the clergy who would happily officiate a same sex wedding, and some clergy who have huge issues with any teachings that differ from the Vicar of Rome (married clergy, female clergy, female bishops, etc). This seems to be the "middle line" that avoids a schism in the C of E (and the wider Anglican Communion as a whole).

Colour me unsurprised.

Which is the "wrong" hand with which to masturbate????

Entymology and semiotics: "both sides" arguments - the liberal "left" ???? Hmmmmm...speaking of pagans and heresy; it's all quite laughable

https://www.etymonline.com/word/sinister

sinister (adj.)
early 15c., "prompted by malice or ill-will, intending to mislead," from Old French senestre, sinistre "contrary, false; unfavorable; to the left" (14c.), from Latin sinister "left, on the left side" (opposite of dexter), of uncertain origin. Perhaps meaning properly "the slower or weaker hand" [Tucker], but Klein and Buck suggest it's a euphemism (see left (adj.)) connected with the root of Sanskrit saniyan "more useful, more advantageous." With contrastive or comparative suffix -ter, as in dexter (see dexterity).

The Latin word was used in augury in the sense of "unlucky, unfavorable" (omens, especially bird flights, seen on the left hand were regarded as portending misfortune), and thus sinister acquired a sense of "harmful, unfavorable, adverse." This was from Greek influence, reflecting the early Greek practice of facing north when observing omens. In genuine Roman auspices, the augurs faced south and left was favorable. Thus sinister also retained a secondary sense in Latin of "favorable, auspicious, fortunate, lucky."

Meaning "evil" is from late 15c. Used in heraldry from 1560s to indicate "left, to the left." Bend (not "bar&quot sinister in heraldry indicates illegitimacy and preserves the literal sense of "on or from the left side" (though in heraldry this is from the view of the bearer of the shield, not the observer of it; see bend (n.2)).

42. the design was lousy - two brain hemispheres, two hands, but only one sexual organ....
Thu Jan 23, 2020, 04:45 PM

sex on the wrong brain is the missing link between wilhem reich's 1933 thesis on fascism, blaming masturbation associated with punishment, religious guilt, and violence etc, and modern psych, which blames authoritarianism on an irrational need for certainty. authoritarianism is sometimes measured withe the UAI, or uncertainty avoidance index.

it's not so funny! trump is a classic extreme case of SOWB - and very good at the denial of reality needed to accept the artificial certainty created by reducing the universe to right/wrong, good/bad, black/white etc

the book, sex on the wrong brain, explains how impatient satisfaction-demanding sexual urges create an irrational need for certainty, causing fear, when mixed with mental processes, emphasized in the left hemisphere, that are better with patience and objectivity.

it also increases greed when mixed with math, numbers etc - more bigger faster......

humans started like chimps (even birds have a similar divided brain) about 50-50 right and left handed and the greed and fear from sowb eventually advanced right handedness during periods of conflict. it got worse as our religions started delaying the age of reproduction.

the koran actually left it in their book as a guide/way out for poor young men/ fodder - "man can only have sex with his wife and that which the right hand possesses"

the book "the master and his emissary. the divided brain" by iain mcgilchrist explains the left brain wants certainty, and according to sowb, wrong handed masturbation is why.

while it may seem silly to suggest there is a wrong hand, it would be a lot sillier to imagine there is no difference using one hand or the other, right?

Lot of sinners out there, in that case!

2. Girls who need a sperm donor, but nothing else.
3. People who get married and have sex before.
4. People who have sex but forget about the 'lifelong' requirement.
5. Men of the cloth who do naughty things with young boys.

Oh, the list is too long, I will stop there!

Either there are a lot of sinners out there, or the Church has no idea. Probably much of both, to be honest.
