World leaders rally in Jerusalem against anti-Semitism

Source: AP

By ARON HELLER

JERUSALEM (AP) — Dozens of world leaders descended upon Jerusalem on Thursday for the largest-ever gathering focused on commemorating the Holocaust and combating rising modern-day anti-Semitism — a politically charged event that has been clouded by rival national interpretations of the genocide.

Russian President Vladimir Putin, French President Emmanuel Macron, Britain’s Prince Charles, Vice President Mike Pence and the presidents of Germany, Italy and Austria were among the more than 40 dignitaries attending the World Holocaust Forum, which coincides with the 75th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz death camp.

The three-hour-long ceremony at Jerusalem’s Yad Vashem Holocaust memorial — called “Remembering the Holocaust: Fighting Antisemitism” — looks to project a united front in commemorating the genocide of European Jewry amid a global spike in anti-Jewish violence.

But the unresolved remnants of World War II’s politics have permeated the solemn assembly over the differing historical narratives of various players. Poland’s president, who’s been criticized for his own wartime revisionism, has boycotted the gathering since he wasn’t invited to speak. Putin was granted a central role even as he leads a campaign to play down the Soviet Union’s pre-war pact with the Nazis and shift responsibility for the war’s outbreak on Poland, which was invaded in 1939 to start the fighting.

single-handedly creating peace in the Middle East? What about the very religious, and Jewish, Ivanka? No gathering of "World Leaders" is complete without HER. I thought Mrs. Bib was in jail, for ripping off the citizens of Jerusalem? Must have the same type of leaders we have here, I guess.

https://www.theguardian.com/world/2020/jan/22/holocaust-survey-americans-pew-research-center

In a Pew Research poll, less than half of respondents knew that 6 million Jews were murdered in the Holocaust. What is even more disturbing is that 25% of people did not know that Hitler came to power through democratic processes rather than a violent overthrow of government. At least part of the rise in antisemitism in the US can be laid at the feet of Donald Trump because he supports white supremacists. We have a significantly ignorant population, and such populations are easily manipulated by charlatans like Trump and the Republican Party. I truly fear for our country because education correlates to understanding, and we are obviously doing a poor job of educating a large part of our population.

“The Pew report, What Americans Know About the Holocaust, said the findings raised an important question: “Are those who underestimate the death toll simply uninformed, or are they Holocaust deniers – people with antisemitic views who ‘claim that the Holocaust was invented or exaggerated by Jews as part of a plot to advance Jewish interests’?”

The researchers found some correlation between correct answers and warmer feelings among non-Jews towards Jews. Those answering at least three of the four multiple-choice questions correctly had, on average, a 67% “warmth rating” towards Jews.”

Many Americans live lives of work, TV Entertainment and Sports and know very little of History.
This level of ignorance is truly frightening.

He thought actually documenting the atrocities at the concentration camps with personal accounts, still and motion picture footage and official German records would be enough, he sadly underestimated the capacity humans have for stupidity.

Doubt it will make a difference...after all, we're talking about Jews. The best we can hope for is not another wholesale mass murder of Jews.
