Christian school expels teen after she posed with rainbow birthday cake, mother says

Kimberly Alford says she typically plans big birthday celebrations for her daughter. But when Kayla Kenney turned 15 late last month, the Louisville mother opted to organize a smaller gathering of friends and family at Texas Roadhouse, one of her daughters favorite restaurants.
Ahead of the party, Alford instructed a bakery to decorate a cake with colors that pop, she recalled. It just so happened that the cakes rainbow motif mirrored the design on her daughters sweater, and she took a picture of Kayla smiling next to it to commemorate the Dec. 30 party.
Now, Alford alleges the seemingly innocuous photo caused Kayla to be expelled from Whitefield Academy, a private Christian school in Louisville, where her daughter was a freshman. In an email to the family on Jan. 6, the academys head of school, Bruce Jacobson, wrote that Kaylas enrollment was terminated, effective immediately, because of a social media post.
Alford said an image of her Facebook post was included as an attachment to the email.

I just think people calling in a calm, non-hateful fashion and pointing out how very non-Christian they truly are might serve as a wake up call. Slim hope, I know...

(9,897 posts)It is a blessing to be 'dismissed' from such a shit hole of bigotry and hate disguised as a 'religious' school.
Fuck them, hypocrites all.
The Jesus of the Gospels was VERY clear about who HE supported and who he despised. He hung around whores and lepers and the poor, preached against the money-changers and the Pharisees and Sadducees. He called out hypocrites and charlatans and HIS message is lost on today's Evangelical 'Christians'.
Kayla, it is tragic that you are used as a pawn in this, but your life will be infinitely richer and more enjoyable in direct proportion to the distance you establish between yourself and the hate mongers of Whitefield Academy. I wish you a quick transition and all the support in the world.

(10,303 posts)What part of "Let the little children come to me" is not understood? I know the Bible quotes in question is talking about Jesus's disciples pushing kids away from him and Jesus telling them off for doing so but I see this as a similar thing - the staff of that school is seen as doing God's work as "disciples" and they pushed this "little child" away.

This being a "christian" school, I have to presume it's
some sort of "gay thing" that the school has a manufactured problem with.
My daughter attends a Catholic elementary school.
Whenever it's a non-uniform day, it looks like Rainbow City over there!
Never a complaint from anyone.
Then again, we don't live in Kentucky...
