Wisconsin appeals court puts voter rolls purge on hold

Source: ABC News

MADISON, Wis. -- A Wisconsin appeals court on Tuesday put on hold an order to immediately remove up to 209,000 names from the state's voter registration rolls, handing Democrats who had fought the move a victory in the battleground state.

The appeals court sided with the bipartisan state elections commission in putting the brakes on removing any voters while the court fight continues. It also put on hold a ruling from Monday in which a judge found the commission and its three Democratic members in contempt for not proceeding with removing the voters.

<snip>

The voter purge lawsuit was brought by the Wisconsin Institute for Law and Liberty, a conservative law firm. It argued that the state elections commission broke the law when it did not remove voters from the rolls who did not respond within 30 days to a mailing in October indicating they may have moved.

The commission wanted to wait until after the November 2020 presidential election before removing anyone because of inaccuracies found while previously attempting to identify voters who may have moved. Even if a voter has their registration deactivated, they can register again later or on Election Day when they show up at the polls, assuming they have the required documentation.

You can operate without a lot of things, if you have to. Car, Cable TV, electric, cell phone. But it sure is hard to lose a lot of people at the USPS. You have to pick up your mail. Even if it's general delivery twice a month, and that is pretty rare.

Wisconsin was rigged in 2016 and I have no doubt it will be rigged in 2020 They still need a picture id. The birth certificate is particularly difficult for upSouthers in the Silent and Earliest Boomer generation. They went looking for the warmth of northern suns - and all these years later . . . The Jim Crow that prevented them from being born in a hospital (my father was born in Alabama in 1941 - at home) - no comes back and punches them in the throat. They don't have the birth certificates - they just don't have it.

Getting a free ID for Voting is easy even if you do not have the documentation to get a regular Wisconsin ID!
1. Go to the DMV to apply
2.Bring the following, if available:
◦ Proof of Name and Date of Birth
(such as Birth Certificate)
◦ Proof of Identity
(Social Security Card, Medicaid/Medicare Card, etc.)
◦ Wisconsin Residency
(Utility bill, government mail, lease, etc.)
◦ Proof of U.S. Citizenship
(U.S. Birth certificate or citizenship paperwork)
◦ Social Security Number
3.If you don't have all or any of these, you can still get an ID for voting. Just bring what you have to the DMV, fill out two forms (form MV3004, and form MV3012), and you will get a photo ID document in the mail that you can use in time for voting. Here is a sample of the document you'll be receiving.

Call our voter ID hotline if you need assistance: (844) 588-1069

If you already hold an unexpired Wisconsin driver license or identification (ID) card, or if you hold a Wisconsin driver license or ID card that has expired since the last general election (currently November 8, 2016), you have what you need to vote. A Wisconsin driver license or ID card is acceptable photo ID for voting.

DMV does not have information regarding voter eligibility, poll locations, voter registration information or other election information. Please contact your local election officials or county clerk for election information. The Wisconsin Elections Commission is another useful source of information.

Rigged: How Voter Suppression Threw Wisconsin to Trump And possibly handed him the whole election.

Ari BermanNovember/December 2017 Issue

https://www.motherjones.com/politics/2017/10/voter-suppression-wisconsin-election-2016/

Three years after Wisconsin passed its voter ID law in 2011, a federal judge blocked it, noting that 9 percent of all registered voters did not have the required forms of ID. Black voters were about 50 percent likelier than whites to lack these IDs because they were less likely to drive or to be able to afford the documents required to get a current ID, and more likely to have moved from out of state. There is, of course, no one thing that swung the election. Clinton’s failings, James Comey’s 11th-hour letter, Russian interference, fake news, sexism, racism, and a struggling economy in key swing states all contributed to Trump’s victory. We will never be able to assign exact proportions to all the factors at play. But a year later, interviews with voters, organizers, and election officials reveal that, in Wisconsin and beyond, voter suppression played a much larger role than is commonly understood
.

did not swing the election to Trump - if Clinton had won Wisconsin, it would have been 296 to 242 Trump instead of 306 to 232

That said, I remember when PA passed a voter suppression law in 2012, Republicans in the state there bragged that they handed the state to Romney - but, Obama won a narrow victory there in 2012. But, I bet it played a role in 2016.

I went down and helped register people in 2016 (PA).

Poll Taxes. Used to inflict harm on us black folks. It's enough.

Wisconsin is working with voting theft investigative reporter/litigant Greg Palast on this initiative that is fighting head to head with Koch $.

Greg provides a great overview of the situation and the 2016-2020 historic scope in this interview.
He explains why if it isn’t dramatically fixed soon trump WILL win again:
