Trump strike on Soleimani came amid pressure from impeachment allies in Senate: reports
BY J. EDWARD MORENO - 01/10/20 11:31 AM EST
President Trump said his order to launch the drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani came amid pressure from Senate Republicans he views as key allies in his upcoming impeachment trial, The Wall Street Journal reported and The New York Times reported this week. (1), (2)
The articles did not name the GOP senators, but many of Trump's allies in the Senate, including Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), have praised his decision to take out the Quds Force commander in Baghdad.
Graham, an Iran hawk who is also chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has been outspoken in his support of Trump's strike on Soleimani and in his opposition to Trump's impeachment.
The New York Times reported that Trump said on a phone call that he had been under pressure by some Senate Republicans to take a harder line on Iran.

(86,775 posts)Another day, another reason not to send over the Articles of Impeachment. They R Senators are revealing that they are not qualified to hold a trial due to overt bias and complicity in crimes with the defendant.
I wonder what kind of scum will rise to the swamp's surface and reveal more hidden evidence over the weekend. Waiting can be fun, extremely intense right now, but could be seriously gratifying in the end.
I'm expecting a whole lot of stuff to come out over the weekend.

He actually was surprised this was not more of a unifying event for the country, which is what he expected it was going to be," Haberman responded. "Something more along the lines of what you saw around the Iraq War lead-up."
And I think you get a fuller picture of what this might have been about.

(14,953 posts)The GOP are accessories, or as I look at it, co-conspirators. Look at Nunes running round Ukraine.
Get them all named, their actions recorded and reported, their criminality investigated and prosecuted, and their asses locked up.
If enough remain seated in the Senate for a quorum, then they can try Trumps impeachment.
Otherwise, accessories have no place on the jury. Talking to you, Moscow Mitch.
