Given the potential enormous risks of destabilizing the region, the Trump administration needed a strong justification for launching the strike that killed infamous Iranian military leader Qassim Suleimani. But when Secretary of State Mike Pompeo appeared on CNN to defend the strike, asserting that Suleimani posed an imminent threat, he struggled to respond to some of John Bermans questions.
[Was there a] specific target overseas? asked Berman.
Im not going to say anything more about the nature of the attack, but know this was not just in Iraq, said Pompeo. It was using the proxy forces he has manipulated for so long to bring so much destruction to the Shias, Sunnis and Muslims throughout the region. He inflicted harm not only on American lives but created terrible activities supporting Hezbollah, Hamas. Qassim Suleimani was at the center of all of it.
Any imminent threat to the U.S. homeland? Berman pressed him.
These were threats that were located in the region, said Pompeo.

Mike Pompeo to CNN on Suleimani assassination: "I saw last night there was dancing in the streets in parts of Iraq. We have every expectation that people not only in Iraq, but in Iran, will view the American action last night as giving them freedom."

(33,345 posts)Of course, it's mixed with blatant lies.
QUDS is specifically tasked with overseas operations, with projecting Iranian power. The SA Oil Facility attack, tanker attacks in the Strait of Hormuz, the Shia militias, operations in Syria, etc. could all be QUDS. Hell, they probably are. All that shit, of course, has happened since Trump fucked up a functioning agreement out of pique.
The issue is, the murdering asshole was not a non-state actor like Bin Laden. He was a powerful Iranian Government Official. Big difference.
