U.S. embassy urges citizens to depart Iraq immediately

Source: Reuters

The United States embassy in Baghdad urged on Friday all U.S. citizens to depart Iraq immediately, hours after the U.S. killed Iranian Quds Force leader Qassem Soleimani and Iraqi militia commander Abu Mahdi al-Muhandis in an air strike.

"Due to heightened tensions in Iraq and the region, the U.S. Embassy urges American citizens to heed the January 2020 Travel Advisory and depart Iraq immediately. U.S. citizens should depart via airline while possible, and failing that, to other countries via land," it said in a statement.

US regime change in the past has rarely, if ever, worked out. The CIA overthrow of the democratically elected leader of Iran in 1953 led to the repressive murderous regime of the Shah of Iran, which itself was overthrown by the people of Iran and the ayatollahs, leading to today’s leaders. US intervention in several Central and South American countries has led to destabilization and extreme danger and poverty, forcing citizens to leave. US attempts to change the government in Vietnam was an utter failure, as was the Iraq War to get rid of Saddam Hussein.

I think Trump has now provoked Iran past the point of no return. They will retaliate in some way, killing Americans (most likely civilians) somewhere, and the US will then retaliate with war. I guess Bolton gets his goal after all.

The next Democratic Congress needs to take back war powers and make sure any president cannot start a war just because he wants to.

And yet American leaders feel competent to interfere in other countries?

Slow learners?

How many body bags will be needed this time?
