Paul Ryan Tells Florida Seniors That Obamacare Includes Death Panels
By Igor Volsky on Sep 22, 2012 at 4:19 pm
Paul Ryan likened a mechanism to control health care spending to death panels, during a town hall at the University of Central Florida in Orlando on Saturday.
After listening to Ryan repeatedly call for the repeal of the Affordable Care Act, an elderly man asked the Republican vice presidential nominee about the death panels. Rather than dissuading the man from what PolitiFact named 2009?s Lie of the Year, Ryan laughed and responded, thats not the word Id choose to use to describe it. Its actually called
.the Independent Payment Advisory Board:
QUESTION: We love you Paul. But Im getting long in years. Will you address the death panels that were going to have?
RYAN: The death panels, well! Thats not the word Id choose to use to describe it. Its actually called. Its actually called, so in Medicare, what I refer to as this board of 15 bureaucrats. Its called the Independent Payment Advisory Board. It sounds fairly innocuous.

(24 posts)Romney/Ryan need to win Florida for starters. If they don't carry Florida, they are done before they start.
Ryan is such a double talking punk.

for denying care. A duly appointed -- or even elected -- board to oversee coverage requirements is much better than letting the "free" market sort it out. I hope people aren't buying Ryan's lies.

I've been told that by an geezer that thinks Mexicans are all moving to this country just to keep him from seeing a doctor.

(10,336 posts)The real death panels are already in place in the current beuracratic system. The fight between political forces, corrupt politicos, and clashing idelogoies lead us into a system that is a hellish nightmare. And it doesn't stop. Now the state is using call centers, they conveniently lose paperwork, the conveniently do all sorts of stuff to make me continue to prove that somehow the MS I have hasn't somehow cured itself, or whatever. It's a non-stop harassment campaign. Latest letter, recieved yesterday, indicated that it "appears' I am no longer eligible for the extra help (That extra help is my Medicaid, which *IS my supplemental. Now I got to get a lawyer, I'm so tired of it I'm thinking of suing, class action if I can to prove that I don't have the time for this. It's just me. I either have time to be sick, and in between try to get well, or I have time for their nonsense. But not both. Either that or just give up. I'm not far from that.

(582 posts)The original "Death Panel" scare was brought up when there was proposed language in the ACA to allow Doctors to discuss end of life treatments with the patient, rather than dodge the issue and pretend they are going to get well.
As for the new definition of death panel, people deciding whether treatment is called for or not, well, the "free market" insurance companies always had those. Bean counters who were unaccountable to anyone but the board of directors who determined what procedures would be paid for, the cost/benefit to the company (not the patient), and whether or not to count a procedure as experimental or "necessary." These decisions are not being made by doctors.
Ryan, it is you trying to divert attention. Shut up, stand up, salute, and go down with your ship.
