Pelosi announces Porter, Haaland will sit on Oversight panel

Source: The Hill

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced Tuesday that Reps. Katie Porter (D-Calif.) and Deb Haaland (D-N.M.) will join the House Oversight Committee, taking the places of former Reps. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) and Katie Hill (D-Calif.).

Cummings died in October while he was serving as the panel's leader. Hill resigned in November after she was accused of having a sexual relationship with a staffer.

Pelosi praised Porter and Haaland, both of whom are first-term lawmakers, in a statement on Tuesday. She called Porter an "unparalleled champion for consumers and working families across America," and said that Haaland has "distinguished herself as a patriotic, persistent leader."

"The leadership of these outstanding Members will be vital in advancing the Committee’s work at this important time in our nation’s history: ensuring that the Congress can function as our Founders intended, as a co-equal branch acting as a check and balance on the others, and that our Democratic Majority can continue to achieve progress For The People," the speaker added.

Understatement.

Love her ...

Katie Porter IS a star in the making. She's real, she's extremely intelligent, and she doesn't back down.

She turned Orange County BLUE ......

Great choice

Lucky you. I knew she was going to be a 'star' when she was on Ari's show last year before she won.
She just seemed so real, honest and intelligent. Goodness, she has gone way beyond my expectations. That one on one she did with Jamie Dimon. One of the BEST take downs of someone who doesn't even know of care about or recognize the American Experience.

Friends who live in the 25th had then lost Katie Hill as their rep. All of them are still angry at her for stepping down. They worked extremely hard for her, donated their hard earned monies and all said that this is the thanks they got? (One had just had back surgery and still got out there and knocked on doors. Another one is on Disability but still made calls for Hill). I want to tell them to work hard to put the new person in running for her seat: Christy Smith. I'm trying to warm them up to Smith because we still need Palmdale in our column in the House, but like I said they're still mad and have a bad taste on what happened with Hill. I asked them what if Cenk Uygur sneaks in there to become their rep? Neither has gotten back to me which means they're really thinking about what I asked them

Deb Haaland is one of the first Native Americans to be elected to congress along with Sharice Davids.

Porter and Haaland are the perfect choice for Pelosi to have picked to defend our country against the evil. They are underreported in the news, however that is no matter. They don't seek the limelight, they are doing their jobs for their constituents and the rest of America.

Nancy Pelosi chose wisely. Brava.

Wonder if they still call it that. Whatever, she's convinced the leadership that her district sent them a valuable addition.

Wishing them both lots of good work. It'd be years before either could replace Elijah Cummings, of course, but maybe. Someday!

That completely throws them. They can't dismiss or mock her as emotional, immature, extreme or iffy on her facts.

She's their kryptonite.

Being a former student of Liz Warren, that's not surprising.
