A top Cuban diplomat reportedly said Monday that some officials in the U.S. government want to sever the relationship between Cuba and the U.S.
Carlos Fernández de Cossio, the Cuban foreign ministrys general director for U.S. affairs, made his comments outside a U.S.-Cuba academic conference in Havana, saying some U.S. officials are aiming to increasingly apply hostile measures.
There are powerful people today in the U.S. government that would want to increasingly apply hostile measures and to sever our bilateral relationship. If that were to be the case, we are ready to face that reality, de Cossio said, according to NBC News.
He added that harming the relationship is not what the people of Cuba want. Its not what the government of Cuba is seeking. And, again, we know its not what the people of the United States would want.

(11,527 posts)I was lucky enough to travel to Cuba before Bolton pushed tRump to kill what little bit of a relationship we had with them. The Cuban people are welcoming and friendly, and it warmed my heart to be somewhere without a single McDonalds . Cuba could become a wonderful vacation spot for people from the US if we'd lift the stupid embargo.
The Cuban government is evolving also. There's nobody named Castro in the top echelon of their government anymore, their current president was educated as an engineer. They are slowly bringing in foreign investors as partners to develop and refurbish much of their infrastructure.

(10,106 posts)It is madness to demonize a small island nation only 90 miles from our border and sever ties. Instead of rejecting Cuban ties just because Obama created them, Trump should be fostering better relationships. Now that Bolton is out of his administration, someone needs to start pitching all the real estate deals to be made in an undeveloped Cuba.
