RICHMOND, Va. (AP) Former Virginia Gov. Gerald Baliles, a Democrat known as the transportation governor and for his work to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and increase foreign trade, died Tuesday. He was 79.

(48,955 posts)3. I only lived in Virginia few about 3 years. During that time Baliles was the Gov.
I remember him as a solid governor, whose lt governor, Douglas Wilder went on to run and win as his successor.
RIP Gov. and peace to your family and loved ones.
