Marine Corps vet who served in Iraq deported to El Salvador

Source: The Hill

BY ARIS FOLLEY - 10/23/19 07:12 PM EDT

Jose Segovia-Benitez, a 38-year-old Marine Corps combat veteran who served in Iraq, was deported to El Salvador — a country where he hasn’t lived since he was a toddler — on Wednesday.

Segovia-Benitez's attorney Roy Petty told the Phoenix New Times that he didn’t find out Segovia-Benitez had been deported until after he arrived for a planned meeting with his client at the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) facility in Arizona where he was being held.

"Certainly, this is a surprise," he told the paper Wednesday. "ICE kept his deportation a secret. They kept it a secret from him, me, his other attorney, and they kept it a secret from his mother. It's not common practice."

“Generally, what ICE will do is they will notify the person so the person can make arrangements. They woke him up and put him on a plane,” he continued.

1. 'I refuse to die in here': the marine who survived two tours and is now fighting deportation

In his 21 months of detention, Jose Segovia Benitez says he’s been denied critical treatment for his PTSD and heart condition

Jose Segovia Benitez survived two tours of duty with the US Marine Corps, a bomb blast, and a traumatic brain injury.

But the US is not helping him recover. On the contrary, the government may be leading him to his death.

Segovia is currently imprisoned at an Immigration and Customs Enforcement (Ice) detention center in Adelanto, California where he says he is being denied critical medical and mental health care. The 38-year-old veteran is facing deportation to El Salvador, a country he left when he was three years old and where his loved ones fear he could be killed.

“I’m not going to die here. I refuse to die here,” Segovia said on a recent morning, wearing a red jail uniform and seated in a cramped room with no windows to the outside.

8. The Republicans are no different from the Nazis who rounded up people and sent them to their death.

What will it take for the national major news services to speak out against the Republican Party that is fascist gangster blight on our nation? They have absolutely no respect for the law unless it is handed down by fascist judges in total contradiction to our nation's constitution. Their latest attempt in which they raided a committee hearing to silence the truth is further evidence that they are no better than the blood thirsty Nazis who seized power in Germany. They are sadists that take delight in the sufferings they can inflict on helpless victims. They feast on the hatred that they cultivate with their financed media sources in which they spew vicious lies 24/7. If not halted this nation is on the road to falling victim to the same fate as the German citizens whose prejudices and unbridled hatred led them to a disastrous reckoning for their compliance with outright evilness.

Take him to a country he does not know and from where refugees are fleeing.

The stupidity of this move is only matched by its heartlessness.

with true-blue American values deported by Russian-loving republiCons. Somewhere in all of this Abraham Lincoln, U.S. Grant and Ronald Reagan absolutely must be rolling over in their graves. As much as I might have disagreed with some or most of their policies, I would never have doubted that they were traitors to basic American values. But I do, so much do I do, more than doubt the clowns running the show of today.

Non-citizens, who've done prison time for violent felonies, prior military service isn't taken into consideration. They are treated the same way as any other person convicted of a violent felony.

Except not being white. Why in the world is he in a jail uniform? If they allow non-citizens to join the military, they should be granted automatic citizenship. They are soldiers, not criminals. This man sustained serious injuries for this country.

Another story that needs to be broadcast from the rooftops.
