U.S. Republicans plan vote to censure Democrat Schiff, face of impeachment inquiry
Source: Reuters
Republican lawmakers will bring a motion to censure the Democratic chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, Adam Schiff, on Monday, a largely symbolic act by the minority party to express dismay about the impeachment inquiry into U.S. President Donald Trump, a fellow Republican.
How many times has he (Schiff) lied to us? He should be censured, said the top Republican in the House of Representatives, Kevin McCarthy, on Friday.
McCarthy said Schiff misled the public by saying he did not know the identity of the whistleblower who reported that Trump had pressed Ukraines president to dig up information about a political rival, Democrat Joe Biden.
That report precipitated the investigation into whether Trump should be removed from office. McCarthy said the whistleblower had met with Schiffs staff.

(182,877 posts)From what I've read the whistleblower did approach Schiff's staff but the staffer (s) wisely said "Whoa! Get a lawyer. I can't hear anymore details" and rightly informed Schiff of the conversation. It was vague and that was about it.

Just one more example of the GOP's absolute TERROR of the people being told the truth.

(26,319 posts)save themselves because they (the House and Senate Republicans) have been active accomplices to the Trump corruption from day one and now they are worried that if he goes down so do they.

(47,586 posts)they would go hide in the shadows until all of this is over. Then hope and pray no one remembers their support of Trump. A lot of voters have short memories and some of these politicians might survive. Hopefully, however, they keep running their mouths and earn an early retirement from government.

I saw McCarthy on "60 Minutes" and he was a DUD. Long pauses, while he looked into the camera like a deer caught in the headlights. Perfect for the leader of the corrupt gop Russia lovers.

The whistleblower alleges illegal and impeachable actions by trump. That is what is important. Who cares who knew his name? How does that have any bearing on the whistleblowers claims? Those should be judged on their own merit.
This country keeps electing buffoons and McCarthy is one of the bufooniest
On the positive side this kind of vote while popular opinion is trending towards impeachment might get people to notice the fecklessness of the republicans.

They seem slavishly loyal to a man who has done everything he can to harm the country. But why? Trump wouldn't piss down their throats if their teeth were on fire. Loyalty to Trump is a one way street. I don't get it. I really don't.
All they all on the take from Putin?

H never should have apologized for that one. It is a vast right wing conspiracy and she called it out 30 fucking years ago. Republicans Suck, especially the older ones who are watching, know it's an end to the rule of law and are doing NOTHING. Special place in Hell for all of them. They think their money and position will protect them and theirs. Good luck traitors.

(4,010 posts)investigation, not Schiff. He's only one of what, 4+ committee chairs doing the investigations.
My guess is that they do fear Pelosi and the entire Democratic caucus. Besides knowing that their efforts will fail, it's hard to see how this could affect the outcome. And yes, it sounds more like a fund-raising tactic than anything else. They likely also fear him as a highly organized, intelligent and aggressive committeeman who will turn up even more dirt. Yet we have a host of others who could take his place and do a fine job.
I'd like to see some gamesmanship whereby Schiff could fake stepping down into a mere committee role for awhile and then take back over later. A head fake so to speak to make the 'Pubs howl. Hey, why not?
