Ohio State Doctor Committed Nearly 1,500 Sexual Assaults, New Report Finds

Source: Huffington Post

Former Ohio State University athletic trainer Dr. Richard Strauss committed nearly 1,500 sexual assaults on student-patients over two decades, according to a new report published by the university.

OSU stated in its annual crime report published this week that Strauss committed at least 1,429 sexual assaults and 47 rapes while he worked at the university between the late 1970s through the 1990s. The crime report looked at the total number of incidents that occurred, rather than total number of victims.

Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) was accused last year of turning a blind eye to Strauss’ abuse when he was an assistant wrestling coach at OSU between 1986 and 1994.

“I considered Jim Jordan a friend. But at the end of the day, he is absolutely lying if he says he doesn’t know what was going on,” former Ohio State wrestler Mike DiSabato told NBC News in an investigative report published last year.

It is entirely possible that Jim Jordan experience vicarious pleasure in being aware of the sexual abuse that was taking place. It is a fact that he and others of the coaching staff were present when it was it was charged that it was obvious that improper behavior clearly took place. One of the young men on the team charged that the doctor had left and then returned when one of the team came in and he went into the shower with him. It can't get too much more obvious than this. Yet, the university exonerated the staff from any wrong doing.

This was not some sole incident. Literally hundreds incidents of improper behavior were reported during the investigation. Yet the entire staff, including macho Jordan, was totally blind as to what was taking place. It is just a case of the university putting revenue ahead of the protection of those entrusted to their care and protection. I can only conclude he is one sick bastard if he allowed this to take place. He wasn't about to cause any thing to jeopardize his position by raising an alarm. He just simply followed what so many athletic directors have been doing for years. Play dumb.

3. Big Ten schools have a problem

This isn't the only Ohio State scandal, then you add in Penn State, Michigan State, etc. and there is a problem.

Here's one take:

I worked at a Big Ten school and found the culture there was one of covering up and a near-worshipful perspective on the school and conference from people wo should have known better. The conference needs to deal with these issues at a deep level - something I don't expect to happen.

It was about protecting the school, but foremost about protecting little fiefdoms like the one that protected Jerry Sandusky at Penn state all those years.

11. Where the hell is the NCAA investigation?
Wed Oct 2, 2019, 07:15 PM

and why is the "legal investigation" taking so long?

They couldn't get to Paterno fast enough even though he reported things to his superiors. NCAA reps went public o[ening their mouths with all kinds of immediate condescending comments before a trial...but now...nothing.
MSU ? Nothing, either.

Oh yeah! It's Ohio State. Can't have a death sentence on OSU because...TV revenue? Someone else would get more publicity in the Big Ten than OSU?

Maybe a decision will be reached in 10 years or so and retroactively punished OSU with sternly worded rhetoric.

Meanwhile, JImbo gets away with thumbing his nose at the authorities and the NCAA pooh poohs it.

Seems fair! /s

15. Joe Paterno knew of abuse sooner then he claimed

A graphic description of sexual abuse from 1976 detailed in court documents released Tuesday cast new doubt on assertions by Joe Paterno, the former Penn State football coach, that he did not know until 2001 that his former assistant Jerry Sandusky had abused minors.

The testimony, which was revealed in the course of a lawsuit between Penn State and one of its insurers over nearly $100 million in settlements the university reached with 32 of Mr. Sandusky’s victims, implied that Mr. Paterno knew about child sexual abuse by Mr. Sandusky years earlier but did nothing about it, allowing Mr. Sandusky to continue to abuse dozens of boys for decades.

Mr. Sandusky’s serial sexual abuse became public in 2011. Mr. Paterno said in sworn testimony that year that he first heard of accusations about Mr. Sandusky in 2001. A much-disputed university report later concluded that Mr. Paterno, who died of cancer in 2012, had been made aware of complaints against Mr. Sandusky, a longtime Penn State assistant coach, as early as 1998.

The distinction is potentially worth millions of dollars to Penn State. The insurer, Pennsylvania Manufacturers’ Association Insurance, is hoping the documents released Tuesday will show that Penn State should have informed it of Mr. Sandusky’s abuse as early as 1976, and thus allow the company to avoid reimbursing the university for tens of millions of dollars in settlements.
