UK to set out 'final offer' Brexit plans

Source: Politico

MANCHESTER, England — Boris Johnson will present a "final offer" alternative Brexit deal to the EU on Wednesday, Downing Street officials said, as the British prime minister prepares for his set-piece party conference speech to the Conservative faithful.

The prime minister has insisted he is pushing for a deal with the European Union but he is running out of time after promising to deliver Brexit by October 31 "do or die." Johnson now hopes to shift the focus back onto his efforts to "get Brexit done" — as the party's new slogan pledges — and to rally his troops ahead of a possible election that he hopes will be called in the coming weeks.

Johnson will tell party's annual gathering that the plan, which outlines the U.K. alternative to the Northern Ireland backstop plan, is a "fair and reasonable compromise."

The U.K. plan will be set out in what Downing Street is describing as new, legal texts. The EU has long demanded clarity on U.K. proposals for replacing the backstop, which was designed to avoid a hard border on the island of Ireland, but has so far received only discussion points known as non-papers.

Too few of us are paying attention to what is happening in the UK right now. The parliament is in absolute crises right now and Boris Johnson is vowing to disregard the law. There is no deal that could be made with the EU (if we are allow for a possibility that the EU would agree to anything Boris Johnson and the Tories would offer at this point) that could pass the very toxic Parliament. As for Labour, although I'm cheering for them, they are rudderless. October 31st will be a very faithful day indeed.

will result in one of two things happening:

1) Best case, NI reunites with the Republic.

2) Worst case, the return of "the Troubles", but now, turned up to 11.

I believe Ireland will reunite, and this could be the thing that finally makes it happen. Another possibility is that Scotland could split off and leave the UK in order to remain in the EU. They're already talking about it.

So, the Queen gets to be the monarch of England (but not the City of London I am guessing) and Wales.

the Protestants in the North will never unite with the Republic and become a minority. I just don't see that ever happening. A deal between them is much more likely than unification. They can make deal on a hard border. As for a return of the Troubles neither side wants a repeat of that.

As for Scotland I doubt economically they can go it alone. They have North Sea oil but little else. How are they going to survive?

___that Johnson, and Brits in general, seem to think the EU is waiting with bated breath for Mighty Brittainia's Final Offer. The UK, like parts of our own country, is living in the past!
