The President dragged the Attorney General into this mess. At a minimum, AG Barr must recuse himself until we get to the bottom of this matter. #UkraineTranscript

(43,192 posts)So many conflicts of interest because Trump has blended all the players together from inside and outside government and campaign and private life. It's a toxic stew.

(4,341 posts)He must be deeply compromised or is a nut case who actually believes on all the circus this administration has always been.
I wish I could understand it, a person who works hard to become a lawyer, a judge, a DOJ to then sell his soul to an idiot, what is in it for him? Is he involved in corruption with the creature? Is he hoping to make money from all this?

(7,218 posts)That would be John Mitchell, who worked for another Republican criminal of a president, a president whose light might dim a bit as the most corrupt president we ever had, all thanks to Bill Barrs current Republican boss.

(36,478 posts)The GOP has been playing the long game. Decades. They are this close to squashing representative government without actually changing the Constitution. They are not going to fold. Much as I think Moscow Mitch & many others are disgusted with & sick of the orange pustule in the WH, the GOP is almost within reach of their goal. They control the media. They control the voting machines. They have lied, cheated, stolen, & bought their way to power & they aren't giving it up over some stupid rules.

(2,143 posts)Nancy MacLean's book, "Democracy in Chains: The Deep History of the Radical Right's Stealth Plan for America" and Jeff Sharlet's book, "The Family: the Secret Fundamentalism at the Heart of American Power" describe a secret long game by a group of wealthy individuals plotting to grab power and take over the US government for their own agenda. They have had some success, as you point out.
Most troubling to me in the takeover attempt is the stacking of the judiciary with right wing candidates, Attorney William Barr and Supreme Court Justice Brett Cavanaugh being the worst of these threats to democracy.
In the best of all worlds, I would like to see the Democrats win the presidency and the US Senate in 2020, then proceed with criminal charges, i.e., for perjury, against those two individuals.

(36,099 posts)As there are court subpoenas from corporate comm systems of conversation transcripts for everyone in the country, so there would be big data captures of these conversations, yes?
Some tech can or should be consulting them -- even Andrew Yang could probably know -- about how to get the original convo transcripts, yes?
What I'm trying to say is that I don't think Congress is necessarily stuck with what they're given.

(1,355 posts)After Congress forces AG Barr to recuse, we will get the appointment of a Special Council to investigate the Trump / Ukraine connection. Perhaps this time around, the SC will have Trump under oath before a Grand Jury.
We hold the evidence this time, and Trump is going to be charged.

But if Jabba has any smarts at all, he will see the whirlpool that is about to drag Trump down into the bowels of Hell, and swim away as fast as he can so he doesn't go down as well.

(493 posts)It's now clear that AG Barr led a corrupt crusade behind the scenes to quash the whistleblower complaint against Trump. An impeachment inquiry is the best way for the House to get around Barr's blockade and hold Trump accountable.
William Barr Hit a New Low In His Crusade to Bury the Whistleblower Complaint
The Justice Department released a statement Wednesday claiming that neither Trump nor Giuliani have spoken with Barr about pressuring Ukraine to investigate Biden and his son. But there is ample evidence that Barr played a substantial role in protecting Trump from a whistleblower complaint over the call.
Important point -- Barr/DOJ advised the DNI not to share the whistleblower complaint, even as Barr/DOJ was named on the call at the heart of the whistleblower complaint.
So the Barr DoJ was suppressing a whistle blower complaint that apparently implicates Barr in Trumps Ukraine scheme. The corruption is everywhere in this Administration.

Schiff sent a letter to Barr Wednesday saying the DOJs involvement raises the specter that the Department has participated in a dangerous cover-up to protect the President.
