(160,598 posts)out of the clutches of the lunatic mob of "exile" Cuban Americans in Miami.
When Gregory Craig gave a picnic for Elián González, his father, his step-mother, his baby brother, and some school mates and a cousin who flew from Cuba to stay with Elián, during the long trial, a neighbor hid upstairs in her house, and took photos of the event, sold them to NewsMax magazine, and NewsMax claimed Gregory was having a Santería ritual at night in his yard, and that a statue of a gnome by the side of Gregory's house was actually a voodoo Yoruba god!
That gave some fuel to the lunatic rabid right-wing fringe in Miami to screech about as they thought it might be something that the courts would see as a reason to let Elián stay in the U.S., away from the child-eating voodoo priests and priestesses and the dreaded Fidel Castro in Cuba.
Picture of Gregory Craig and Juan Miguel with Elian's stepmother and Elian's brother.
Gregory Craig helped the little boy go with his father to the only home he had ever known and the city and country which were his home.
