Trump privately clashed with G7 leaders over reinviting Putin

Source: CNN

A sharp and sometimes bitter disagreement broke out between President Donald Trump and several G7 leaders over whether to allow Russia back into their club during a welcome dinner on Saturday, according to two diplomatic officials and a senior US official with knowledge of the exchange.

Trump, as he did in public over the course of the summit, ardently advocated for it, the officials said. As the leaders discussed issues like Iran and fires in the Amazon rainforest, Trump interjected and asked why Russia should not be included in the talks, given its size and role in global affairs.

That met sharp resistance from some of the leaders, principally German Chancellor Angela Merkel and British Prime Minister Boris Johnson. They argued Russia had grown more anti-democratic since it was ejected in 2014 for its incursion into Ukraine, disqualifying it from rejoining the G7.

During the dinner, Trump argued repeatedly that his predecessor Barack Obama was to blame for ejecting Russia from the group, according to one of the diplomatic officials, echoing a view he has expressed publicly. He told reporters on Monday that Obama was "outsmarted" by Russian President Vladimir Putin during the invasion of Crimea.

3. If Trump invites Putin, G7 leaders should all just refuse to attend.

That would prevent Trump and Putin from crowing about bringing Putin back into the leadership group. If it is held at a Trump property, they should also refuse to attend, citing their decision not to break US law by adding to Trump’s profiting from emoluments.

Given that nothing gets accomplished with Trump in the room, the G6 should just plan to meet without him

7. Refusing to attend G7 if it's held on Trump property makes sense.

I hadn't even heard of the emoluments clause before Fat Donnie became president, and I went to law school. It just wasn't something that came up in Constitutional Law.

The other word I hadn't heard of is kakistocracy, which is defined as "a system of government that is run by the worst, least qualified, and/or most unscrupulous citizens."

and wondered if the other G7 leaders can decide not to attend in 2020 since tRump will benefit personally by profiting off of it. Inviting Putin should be a definite reason for deciding not to attend. Are they allowed to not come in 2020?

I would refuse to stay at ANY trump property. He is not beneath installing video and audio surveillance in the rooms in which they were to stay. I would not feel that I had privacy to discuss affairs of state with staff in any room at one of his properties. I would not trust him one bit. The lure of blackmail would be too great or him to resist. Face it, you KNOW he's thought about it.

but now that you mention it that would be something to consider when planning security. Who in the Hell would ever trust him of all people? The other G7 leaders are a zillion times smarter than the moron is and he doesn't realize or acknowledge this (classic sociopathic narcissist behavior).

4. Were the puppet strings clearly visible at that point. Could they visualize the puppet master?

IMHO Trump has clearly become a pawn of Putin.

The only real question is what is Trump motivated by?

Money, fear, hatred, revenge, blackmail or all of the above?

Or maybe it's as simple as a narcissistic personality disorder.

One thing for sure he is not fit to hold the office of POTUS.

8. Trump's argument would point to China being the one he should invite in

The G7/8/whatever is primarily an economic club, if you ignore the democratic aspect as Trump does. China is far larger, in terms of population and nominal GDP, than Russia. India and Brazil are larger too, for that matter - Russia is the 4th of the BRICs.

Then again, China doesn't have any tapes ...
