Investigators scrutinizing video outside Epstein's cell find some footage unusable

At least one camera in the hallway outside the cell where authorities say registered sex offender Jeffrey Epstein hanged himself earlier this month had footage that is unusable, although other, clearer footage was captured in the area, according to three people briefed on the evidence gathered earlier this month.

It was not immediately clear why some video footage outside Epstein’s cell is too flawed for investigators to use or what is visible in the usable footage. The incident is being investigated by the FBI and the Justice Department’s inspector general’s office, which are attempting to determine what happened and how to assess whether any policies were violated or crimes committed.

The footage is considered critical to those inquiries, and the revelation of an unusable recording is yet another of the apparent failures inside the Metropolitan Correctional Center, the short-staffed Bureau of Prisons facility in downtown Manhattan that held Epstein.

18. It's perfectly feasible that the camera was not operating properly

All genuine errors are just that. An unexpected outcome due to chance or something done mistakenly.

What is not feasible, is that every single error made - from Epstein living the way he did to dying the way he did - is advantageous to one side only.

Every chance event, every error worked not to expose him - or the organization behind him - but to cover their tracks.

This is the same as the sex scandal in the UK, or in the various churches around the world. Every single error benefits the rich and powerful. Every mistake benefits intelligence agencies.

I have no opinion on Epsteins death. But I know that the simple mathematics of error or chance means that the consistently beneficial outcomes cannot be the result of simple luck.

The article says that other, clearer footage was captured. It could be that the footage that was captured shows Epstein clearly being murdered and they just didn't tell us that because the investigation isn't over and they don't want to tip their hand.

Why did they tell us that one camera wasn't working without revealing what the other cameras that were working showed? I expected they watched all of the footage before revealing the one bit of information about the broken camera. Why mention the broken camera at all, to anyone? Why did the source say only that? Why does the source know that, but not what the other cameras showed, if that is why?

What isn't said in these things is often more telling than what is said.

Key footage right outside his cell is unusable? And it's critical, you say? And it's not usable? Hmmm. . . . There's gotta be a good explanation for this, and I'm sure many high-level meetings will be held to come up with it. And Barr will announce it and say it was not really that critical after all, but some GS-7 will be reassigned to the low security FCI in Yazoo City, Mississippi.
