Israel denies Omar and Tlaib entry after Trump tweet

Source: The Hill

Israel on Thursday announced that it would block Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) entry to the territory during an upcoming overseas trip, according to multiple reports.

The decision was announced moments after President Trump tweeted that it would show "great weakness" for Israel to allow the two congresswomen into the country. The president has been an outspoken critic of both Omar and Tlaib, who last year became the first two Muslim women elected to Congress.

The congresswomen have supported Palestinian rights and backed the boycott-Israel movement. Both have been accused by other members of Congress of using anti-Semitic language, but leaders of both parties had said they should be allowed to visit Israel.

This developing report will be updated.

Here is his tweet:

@realDonaldTrump
It would show great weakness if Israel allowed Rep. Omar and Rep.Tlaib to visit. They hate Israel & all Jewish people, & there is nothing that can be said or done to change their minds. Minnesota and Michigan will have a hard time putting them back in office. They are a disgrace!

That is what goes to Israel. We have people homeless and starving in the streets, and we send those thugs 3 billion dollars a year. Personally, after watching their behavior for over 45 years, I decided that such a place is not worth our time and money. Yet, it seems we will sacrifice our own to appease the crazy faithful in our own government. (Funny, I thought our own charter specifies that our government can not make laws that favor a specific religion. Yet, this is going on, and no one will admit that is the real reason for it.) A very f**ked up situation that can only get worse as long as we continue to offer such extreme support to a nation that has shown itself to be... like Trump actually...

Plus any and all aid and federal money being spent in regards to Israel should be off the table and that includes the federal government paying for any citizen to travel there.
That should also include barring the spending of federal dollars to pay for the president as well as the secret service to travel there until Israel issues a complete and formal apology.

Israel denies entry to Democratic Reps. Omar and Tlaib ahead of their planned visit, amid Trump’s public push for such a move

Caught between the opposing views of President Trump and Democratic leaders, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reversed himself on Thursday and decided to prohibit Reps. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) and Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) from visiting Israel during a trip scheduled to start Sunday.

The move followed an unusual intervention by President Trump and immediately opened up a new battle between Netanyahu and Democrats, who had privately warned that such a decision would be unprecedented and inconsistent with Israel’s claims of tolerance and openness.

“The decision has been made; the decision is not to allow them to enter,” Israeli Deputy Foreign Minister Tzipi Hotovely told Israel’s Reshet Radio.

Several pro-Israel groups in the United States criticized the decision, an about-face on the part of Netanyahu’s government.

“Any sitting member of Congress should be welcome to visit Israel as official representatives of Israel’s closest ally and most critical source of international support,” said the Israel Policy Forum, a New York-based Jewish organization. “We strongly urge Prime Minister Netanyahu to reconsider.”
