Italy's Salvini calls for elections, raises possibility of far-right rule

ROME — Italy's hard-line populist interior minister has brought his government to the brink of collapse by calling for an early election that could see the country lurch toward the far-right.

Matteo Salvini is leader of the League, a staunchly anti-immigration party that currently governs in coalition with the anti-establishment 5-Star Movement. Salvini is also one of Italy's two deputy prime ministers, alongside 5SM leader Luigi Di Maio.

Some of these parties have alleged links with Russian President Vladimir Putin, who squarely aligned himself with their worldview when he declared in June that liberalism was "obsolete." Last month, Salvini himself denied that his party sought millions in Kremlin funding through a secret oil deal.

I recently watched this limited series and it is freaky. It takes place in Britain, starting in the near future, and moves ahead in time over the series. In it, Trump gets re-elected (GASP!). On his last days in office, Trump launches a nuclear bomb at an island built by the Chinese. President Pence happens (but everyone knows Trump is running everything), there is a new King, and there is a horrible right-wing party called the '4 Star Party'...


So when I read the above, about this 5-Star movement, it really really really creeped me out.

Making deals with Italy and had become a big influencer of the government. Seems like this relationship is finally coming to fruition. Will the Italians fight back when they realize what they got themselves into?
