Trump says he disagrees with 'send her back' chant (UPDATED)

Source: The Hill
President Trump on Thursday said he disagrees with the "send her back" chant that rang throughout his North Carolina rally when he attacked Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.).
"I was not happy with it," Trump told reporters at the White House. "I disagree with it."
The president for days has continued to attack Omar and three of her colleagues after saying they should "go back" to their home countries, even though they are all U.S. citizens. Only Omar, who came to the U.S. a refugee from Somalia, was born outside the country.

Bullshit. He could have stopped that chant within seconds if he'd wanted to. He could have made his disagreement with it clear to his supporters, if he had disagreed with it.
He's backpedaling now because he knows he's in trouble.
UPDATING AFTER THE HILL ADDED TO THEIR INITIAL STORY:
According to the additions to the story, Trump was asked why he didn't stop the chant.
He said he thought he did because he "started speaking very quickly."
Facts disagree:
[div class"excerpt"]The president did not speak up to stop the refrain. After the chants began, he paused for 14 seconds, looked around with a neutral expression and waited for the crowd to quiet down before continuing his remarks.
Trump also suggested to reporters that they go to North Carolina and ask the people there why they were chanting those words. The Hill viewed this as Trump trying to distance himself from those supporters.

(6,231 posts)is who got to him to come out and say he disagreed? It sure looked like the base loved it. I did see where his campaign staff is mad as hell at his initial tweet against the reps. It could be that they leaned on him to say he was against the chant.

I think not only did he agree with it, it was all by design.

A bona fide war hero and a decent man who just had different views on certain things than I had. It's no wonder our draft dodger in chief hates him so. He was everything he isn't, brave, honorable and a man of conviction.

had and has vast respect among veterans like me. I guess we have differing opinions on what "honor" means. As I stated in my op I had many differences of opinion with him but that doesn't change the facts that he was a decent , honorable man. Lets see if I can come around to your point of view.....
I guess him voting for repeal of the ACA counts..... oh wait, he voted against repeal.
I suppose him leaving his men in the Hanoi Hilton means...
oh, wait he stayed and was tortured some more.
I can see where him wanting to send troops to Lebanon in 1983 was standing with his party
. oh wait again he was against that too
I see that he was all for taxing lower income people and tax cuts for the rich
oops in his presidential campaign he said "There's a growing gap between the haves and have-nots in America, said McCain at a GOP debate in Grand Rapids, Michigan. And that gap is growing and it is unfortunately divided up along ethnic lines.
Again ... his total rejection of climate change along with the repgulicans could prove your point but sorry "Instead of idly debating the precise extent of global warming or the precise timeline of global warming, we need to deal with the central facts of rising temperatures, rising waters, and all the endless troubles that global warming will bring"
As I said , you can disagree with some of his policies and thoughts on some things as I did but to call him a dishonorable man is a disservice to him and to all veterans who looked upon him as a person to admire as I do.

(28,271 posts)The question is: What are Democrats going to do about it?
Puerto Rico has an asshole for a Governor, and there's rioting in the streets as a result. trump is putting this country's civil rights back more than a half-century, placing Congressional lives in danger, and all he seems to be receiving is encouragement. Are we really going to cede our country to trump and his scumbag followers, with hardly more than a whimper? Christ, I'm disappointed in the Democratic Party.

I was very expressive in saying it, and they said that I was mocking him," Trump said. "I would never mock a person that has difficulty. I would never do that. I'm telling you, I would never do it."

(22,728 posts)Haven't we heard enough of his lies? Why do we keep giving over our power and focus to this liar? I'm seriously concerned we are doing nothing but supporting him by boosting his signal.
We have to stop and start focusing on getting out the vote! He doesn't deserve the time of day! Get a clue people!! We're just magnifying his lies when we repeat them.
He wins every time we do it and in so doing we become the ultimate losers.
If you scan the titles in GD it's like the tr*mp underground. If he ever, or if his minions ever, check in here I can only imagine how delighted they are to see how much we mention him here.
I'd like to see, if he had his own group, where all information pertaining to him was mandatorially posted, in isolation, removed from general posts. How much would we have an environment focused on really defeating him in 2020? I'm starting to wonder.
Trashing the word didn't help me out one bit. I hate speaking, seeing and typing it. I am sick of it.

(43,257 posts)This worthy of the Bush White Houses, where on Monday it was pro-A, but by Thursday night it as not-A. People on both sides of the A issue heard what they wanted to hear.
Creating confusion, Trump is playing both sides. He told them to 'go back where they came from', and his red meat base heard him, now he is mollifying that idea for the rest of the general public. WE MUST PIN HIM DOWN to his transgressions and make the public hear what he is really saying.
Trump cannot be allowed to escape his harsh side by appearing reasonable as he says the same thing again.

(12,874 posts)That should be the first response when asked about anything this POtuS says.
Every Democrat, elected or otherwise, should say that every time.
Why?
Because repetition works.
And because it is absolutely true.
