Fox News host on protests in the Middle East: We should burn one of their flags

Source: examiner

With a tricky situation in the Middle East, Fox News has some foreign policy advice for President Obama and his administration.

After an attack on the US embassy in Libya killed four Americans last week, including the US ambassador to Libya, Christopher Stevens, foreign policy has taken center stage leading up to the 2012 presidential election. Republican candidate for president, Mitt Romney, appeared to put his foot in his mouth last week as he reacted too quickly, without the facts, and criticised the Obama administration for allegedly "sympathizing" with the attackers. Even many on the political right thought Romney spoke too soon in his attempt to get a head start against President Obama. While Mitt Romney jumped the gun, he still had his supporters.

On the Fox News show "The Five" this week, co-host Greg Gutfeld spoke about the ongoing protests in the Middle East and his thoughts about how the Obama administration and the American people should react.

"You've got thousands of people chanting 'death to America' in the Middle East, that's called Thursday. I honestly, it just shows you how different we are as a people than these radicals are. In America, we only march against injustice against America, I mean within America, we never march against injustice against America. We have to start feeling our rage about their rage. They need to see us out in the streets yelling and screaming, perhaps burning one of their flags."

President Obama has handled the situation in the Middle East the same way he has handled other foreign policy issues in the past, cool, calm and collected. The way Gutfeld reacted is along the same party line as the rest of the Republican party, running on raw emotions instead of using facts and history to learn how to move forward. Many in the Middle East are fanatics, clinging to their religion in a way that is unhealthy in the eyes of the average American. To stoop to the level of the religious extremists is not what the American people should do and I doubt President Obama will consider it either.

one step further than that, this is IMO an example of "shoot and think later," something republicans are famous for, brains run by emotions than intelligence.

How come I have a feeling "Death to America" is pretty much means death to the western powers....We are the most identifiable, and it's easier to say than say, death to the Euro Zone....just a thought.

An before we get all high and mighty about riots, I seem to remember a few that involved our, and other countries', other religion....football and soccer. Of course, I am not talking about the murders in Libya, but the riots else where. We have all watched in horror as people riot because their team won or lost. Europe and South American have seen there fair share of hooligans after a soccer match. I am certainly not saying that that a game won or lost is the same feeling that the people in the ME are feeling, I'm just saying that it doesn't take much to get people to do things they would not normally do.

An yes, burning another countries flag is acting like the grown-up in the room... ...like I said, Oh bother.
