Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) said Sunday that he offered a compromise to Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) to limit the deaths of migrants making the dangerous trek to cross the U.S. border.
"I spent about an hour with Speaker Pelosi and here's the compromise: We'll start turning the aid back on to Central America. It is in our national security interest to help the Northern Triangle nations with their economy, with their rule of law problems. But if you don't turn off the magnets that attract people, which is our asylum laws, if you don't reform them, they'll keep coming," Graham said on CBS's "Face the Nation."
Graham also addressed the viral photo of a father and toddler drowned in the Rio Grande while attempting to gain access to the U.S.
"Here's what I think the father believed, 'If we can just make it across the Rio Grande, and I can put one foot in America, my child and myself are gonna be in America and we're not going to get sent back,'" Graham said.

(33,207 posts)That's exactly why it's a mistake to seek COMPROMISE with The Republicans.

(11,992 posts)It was probably meant as "reduce the number of" or "decrease the likelihood of", etc.

(11,992 posts)And no policy a Republican will ever approve is going to accomplish that.
Yet no policy is going to pass today without Republican support.
So let's take the death reduction we can get.

(25,183 posts)Lindsay's always been like this. He sees himself in the mold of his hero, John McCain, and figures that being able to work a compromise (or at least be willing to) improves his stature within the GOP. I don't think that the Tom Cottons or the Mitch McConnells agree with him on that, but it hasn't hurt him at re-election time.

This hypocritical douchebag turned color so fast, and began licking his boots the minute he saw his meal ticket on the other side of morality.
Fuck lindsey, and I really wish his challenger in SC could kick his cowardly, closeted ass to the side of the street. Worthless, loud mouth snowflake cry baby.

Too bad we don't have an unbiased M$M, I keep waiting for someone to explain to Trump why we have so many people flooding into America, he hires them at his properties, or marries them.

(4,341 posts)"TO LIMIT"...ok, we will only let a low percentage die. That is like buying an old bicycle offered at $20.00, then bargaining down to $15.00.
What scams and heartless these people are.
The word should be "eliminate" deaths of migrants, not "limit" you soulless SOB!

I'm assuming that Trump will eventually leave office. Hopefully sooner rather than later. But after that, if they suffer big losses, you just know the GOPs playbook will be to come out and suddenly WANT to work with Democrats, or at least give lip service to that idea. And like Lucy and Charlie Brown, the "moderates" in the Democratic party will claim victory, and that NOW they are confident Republicans will work with them in a bi-partisan fair way. Those moderate sentinels of the party will shooosh the progressive wing as disturbing the vibe by demanding too much....uh...progress. Because they'll say, look... the Republicans have had a miraculous transformation and that the GOPs "small heart grew three sizes that day". Like we have finally coaxed the elephant to come over and take our peanut, so no sudden movements that may make him retreat back. Its a part of the same type of pressure the status quo projects to steer the narrative that we need to elect a more established status quo candidate. It's so predictable. I love how AOC knows how to ride above those games and tell it like it is. Damn I wish she was up for nomination.

Restoring aid to Central America effectively admitting Trump is once again ruling as an ignorant asshole, is a start. Funding for immigration courts is another much needed part we all agree upon. And of course, better verifiable treatment of asylum seekers (individuals and families) is a must.
