The numbers are in from the first night of the Democratic presidential debates and it looks like despite technical difficulties NBC managed to score.
According to data from Nielsen, the debate which aired simultaneously on NBC, MSNBC, and Telemundo brought in a total audience of 15.26 million total viewers. An audience of 8.67 million watched the debate on NBC, with another 5.87 million tuning in on MSNBC, and 719,000 on Telemundo. Additionally, 4.3 million viewers in the advertiser-coveted adults 25-54 demographic watched Wednesday nights showdown featuring 10 Democratic presidential candidates.
Further, the debate live stream boasted 9 million viewers, according to a release from the network.
An audience of 15.5 million watched the first Democratic debate of 2016 but then, that showdown took place far later in the election cycle, October of 2015. Wednesday nights event aired more than seven months ahead of the Iowa caucuses. To add some further perspective, the first primary debate in 2008 drew just over 2 million viewers, and the 2012 elections first debate drew about 3 million.

(4,341 posts)Most questions were asked to O'Rourke, who was a disappointment to me, Castro, Booker, and Warren at the beginning, then they forgot about her. I was delighted to see de Blasio find his opportunities, because they had been ignoring him, and not only did he find them, but he took full advantage an hit home-runs with it. Inslee was also very good, and his response to the greatest threat to the USA was fantastic.
Warren was great as well, she just needs to make sure the moderators do not forget her.
Moderators need to be more "Democratic", in the sense that everyone should have equal time, and that did not happen last night.
This may sound surprising but I believe that de Blasio will kick the buffoon's behind, he will look down at the creature and intimidate the hell out of him. Good luck with the creature trying to come up with a funny name for him and then have to look him in the eye. And de Balsio should start intimidating him right now.

(7,403 posts)And that is good news. The fact that MSNBC scored almost as high as the parent NBC is also telling.

(52 posts)and Russia, the tax scam, the tariff debacle, how we have lost some trading partners forever, AND what was actually in the Iran agreement and how it was so much better than the GOP painted it and why we will probably never get that close to transparency with Iran again. Our candidates need to say who they are and what they are all about in 2o secs and use the rest of the time to inform voters about what is really going on that they pay little or no attention to including the Mueller report actual findings.

I thought the moderators did a great job, even Chuck Todd who I don't like at all.
I had never heard of Marianne Williamson and I'm not familiar with her books, but I liked what she said (except the New Zealand thing) and I give her credit for holding her own up on that stage.
Edit: A friend just told me Williamson is an anti-vaxxer, so fuck her.
