DUBAI (Reuters) - Iranian officials told Reuters on Friday that Tehran had received a message from U.S. President Donald Trump through Oman overnight warning that a U.S. attack on Iran was imminent.

“In his message, Trump said he was against any war with Iran and wanted to talk to Tehran about various issues ... he gave a short period of time to get our response but Iran’s immediate response was that it is up to Supreme Leader (Ayatollah Ali) Khamenei to decide about this issue,” one of the officials told Reuters on condition of anonymity.

President Trump confirmed that he approved a strike on Iran on Thursday after it shot down a U.S. drone but called off the operation after the initial moves were underway. Trump said he canceled the attack after being told 150 Iranians would likely be killed.

"We were cocked & loaded to retaliate last night on 3 different sights when I asked, how many will die," Trump said in a series of tweets Friday.

Upon hearing the projected toll, Trump said, he decided that the strike was not "proportionate to shooting down an unmanned drone." The president said he put a halt to the operation 10 minutes before the strike was set to begin.

I regularly read the articles and opinions on the Aljazeera website to leann what is happening around the world from a different perspective. Here’s a recent opinion piece that explains, at least from this writer’s perspective, how the Saudis are trying to expand their influence and control over other countries in the Middle East.

One of the interesting aspects mentioned is that the Saudis need Trump to be reelected in order for them to pull off their plan. Can we expect Saudi meddling in 2020 along with Russian hacking?

Given Saudi Arabia’s past role in exporting radical Islamic terrorism (none of us have forgotten 9/11 and ISIS follows the same Sunni version of Islam as Saudi Arabia), why have Trump and Kushner chosen to befriend SA to the extent of helping them become dominant in the region? I suspect it is promised riches for the Trump and Kushner Organizations for future development projects.

So if Iran wants to end the sanctions and this standoff, perhaps they just need to put Trump Tower Tehran on the table.

this is what is really going on in the Region. Like you,I always watch for stories out of Eourpe and they do not mince words. This is a Saudi,Putin deal and it is all about dominance in the Gulf.

Russia pretty much controls Rare Earth Commodities and they and Iran have the most untapped Oil reserves anywhere on the Planet. Notice how Putin and Xi are working these factors in the last year plus.

Lie #2: Trump backed off due to possible casualties.

Military operations, including air strikes, require assessment of damages (human and property), before during, and after.

He was bluffing and backed off for political reasons.
