Trump says he may not reach out to 2020 swing voters

Donald Trump is confident his core coalition of die-hard supporters can propel him to a second term in the White House, asserting in a new interview that he may not even bother reaching out to swing voters in his re-election campaign.

“I think my base is so strong, I’m not sure that I have to do that,” Trump told Time magazine for a cover story published Thursday.

Brad Parscale, Trump’s campaign manager, echoed that sentiment, telling Time that the president’s 2020 bid would prioritize turning out the already converted.

“People all think you have to change people’s minds. You have to get people to show up that believe in you,” Parscale said.

1. The odds that they are going to swing anyone to their side is pretty low at this point. Either you are a diehard fan or you aren't.
2. Less money spent on swing voters is more money to grift.

From everything I see at Trump's campaign rallies, his followers have become more extreme. I don't recall Proud Boys openly flashing white power hand signals during his 2016 campaign. After only 30 months, Trump's support seems to have distilled into the dregs of the GOP's fringe elements, hardly a recipe for electoral success. He's going to need Putin's hackers to pull it off.

who have never voted or feel disinfranchised. They feel this is how Obama won in his first election. I saw a table at an event a few weeks ago with the GOP registering voters. You don't see it very often. The flyers indicated that they would be in danger of losing the white house if they didn't get more voters registered and to the polls.

We also have to look out for more open signs of voter suppression, especially in the swing states and the south.

For better or worse, Trumpism has die-hard adherents driven by a toxic, lethal ideology. If Trump asked them to drain and send him the blood of their firstborn, they gladly would. In actuality, they are already sacrificing their childrens’ futures on Trump’s gilded altar.

We need a movement of our own to counter and crush Trump and to wash away the residue his term will leave behind. I hope it starts to come together soon because I have not seen it yet. We need a new Obama to emerge that inspires people.
