WEST POINT - The U.S. Military Academy at West Point has released the name of the cadet who died Thursday as a result of a troop truck rollover, identifying him as 22-year-old Christopher J. Morgan of West Orange, N.J.
Cadet Morgan was a valued member of the Corps of Cadets and will be missed by all. The entire community is ensuring that our cadets are being cared for physically, emotionally and spiritually, said Lt. Gen. Darryl A. Williams, 60th Superintendent, U. S. Military Academy. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Morgan family.
Morgan died from injuries sustained when a light medium tactical vehicle, operated by a pair of active-duty soldiers from Ft. Benning, Ga. and transporting 20 cadets to land navigation training, overturned. The LMTV was carrying the cadets, all members of the academys Class of 2020, to the training site from Camp Natural Bridge, where the cadets are quartered during the roughly 5-week-long summer training.
Lt. Gen. Darryl Williams said on Thursday that the LMTV was traversing an unimproved road about two miles into rugged terrain when it overturned.
