(CNN) A man was sentenced Monday to 19 years in prison for throwing a 5-year-old boy from a third-floor balcony at Minnesota's Mall of America.
Emmanuel Aranda, 24, pleaded guilty last month to attempted premeditated first-degree murder.
Aranda said he intended to kill the boy April 12 when he threw the child over a railing at the mall in Bloomington. The boy fell 40 feet and suffered extensive injuries.
Aranda told police he had been frustrated by women rejecting him at the mall, and that he had intended to kill an adult there the day before.

(7,398 posts)illegal. Apparently it carries a sentence of up to 20 years, although it is hard to believe. I don't know where the case stands at this time, but I think it is due to go to trial soon.

(6,831 posts)so he threw a child off a third story balcony.
Did he think this was going to suddenly make him more attractive to women ?
This makes absolutely no sense to me.
Was he high ? Hallucinating ?

(3,321 posts)without the possibility for parole. That would be appropriate. This person has demonstrated that they cannot live in free society.

(25,183 posts)If the child had died, he would have gotten a stiffer sentence, no doubt. Intent to kill was always there, it was just a matter of luck that this child didn't die.
