Alabama boycott builds as states retaliate against abortion law
Source: Reuters
(Reuters) - A movement to boycott Alabama over its near-ban on abortion gained momentum Thursday as officials in Maryland and Colorado called for economic retaliation and online flyers urged people not to buy anything in, or from Alabama.
A day after the southern state passed the countrys most restrictive abortion law, Marylands Democratic Comptroller Peter Franchot said he would advise his states $52 billion pension fund to divest from Alabama, and urged other states to follow suit.
Colorados Democratic Secretary of State Jena Griswold called for a boycott of Alabama and urged the Election Center, an organization that trains election officials from across the country, to move out of the state.
The hashtag #BoycottAlabama gained momentum online, with activists calling for boycotts of products ranging from Mercedes-Benz cars to broiler chickens that are produced in Alabama.

(8,862 posts)Alabama already, like most southern crap states, gets far more money from the Federal Gov't than the send to the Feds.
I imagine if they lose more money, they will just get more from the Feds paid for by the states that send more than they get......LOL

(561 posts)For years, I've been so tired of them freeloading off of Blue States, while they complain about "taxes" and "wanting the government out of their lives". Then they grab Federal money with both hands. They hate us, but not our money. Well now it's time for us to start withholding money we send to the Federal government for them. Trump wanted to withhold Federal money to Sanctuary Cities, he saw no problem doing that. And neither should we, it's time to get together and organize. Use the money within our own states. How insane is it, that women from ass backwards states will have to try and find states that will allow abortion. What's next? Sending people off to different states to vote, if they don't follow the religious teachings of Alabama? Alabama, the state that is 50th in education, they sure care about their children, don't they? What a farce. I never realized till the other day, just how much the GOP hates women.
Interesting read if you're from a Blue State and the crap the GOP pulled on us in 2017.

Alabama? What do they have without government projects, like NASA and about five military bases.
Cut their aid and rebuild Puerto Rico!

Not enough, they need to take their business elsewhere, giving Georgia a loss. Hope other production companies move out of there, hit Georgia right in the wallet.

The ACLU lawyers have their hands full taking these states to court.
Perhaps a few dollars can be sent their way to help?

(17,989 posts)One year, virtually all the "bathroom bills" came up in nearly every red state legislature. They also passed legislation in several states outlawing municipalities from enacting sexual orientation non-discrimination ordinances. They plan this before every legislative session and virtually the same bills show up in state houses all across Jebusland.
