Activists arrested inside DC Venezuelan Embassy

Source: The Hill

Four activists who had been protesting in the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington for more than a month on Thursday were arrested and forcibly removed from the building.

Medea Benjamin, co-founder of anti-war organization Code Pink, told The Associated Press that police entered the building early Thursday morning to arrest the protestors.

The Venezuelan Embassy has been the site of a face-off between supporters of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro and Venezuelan National Assembly leader Juan Guaidó for the last few weeks.

Guaidó has been recognized by the U.S. and a number of other nations as the interim president of the South American country, but Maduro has refused to concede power.

The actual Venezuelan contingent left some time ago, to be clear. It was an empty building, and the Maduro-supporting activists (you know, leftists!) moved in shortly after it was left empty.

I knew IQ45 wouldn't stand for this situation for long.

Not sure how the Police had the authority to make arrests on Sovereign Venezuelan territory in this fashion, but then again, not sure how the protesters had the authority to be there either. Interesting question, really ...

They are paid stooges from the Maduro regime, they are not leftists, they are opportunists.

The embassy had been emptied it, when there is not personnel in the building, or representation from the country the building is no longer Venezuelan territory. On top of that, these people invaded the property.

I am glad they are out, they don't represent the Venezuelan people, they represent a corrupt regime.

Excellent article. Nothing works as well as the truth. Clearly some would prefer we accept their lies or they get vicious.

Common Dreams has been a bright light a long time.
