Former Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates said Sunday that she believed the evidence of obstruction of justice in special counsel Robert Muellers redacted final report would be sufficient to charge President Donald Trump criminally if he werent in office.
Ive been a prosecutor for nearly 30 years, and I can tell you Ive personally prosecuted obstruction cases on far, far less evidence than this, Yates told NBC News Andrea Mitchell in an interview on Meet the Press.
......................................................
Yates said that while not all evidence of obstruction cited in Muellers report carried the same legal significance, as Mueller himself acknowledged, there are several incidents that he described to which special counsel Mueller really couldnt point to any significant factual or legal defenses.
Trump fired Yates days into his presidency after she refused to defend the first iteration of his travel ban executive border that barred entry to the United States for people from several Muslim-majority countries, among other measures...............................

(12,592 posts)Worse than that, he enters the 2020 election as the purest president ever. Look how much time and money his enemies spent investigating him, and he has been vindicated. At least, that's what the narrative will be. He's not only the most successful president ever in the history of the country, but also the least corrupt. "My enemies looked and looked and they didn't find a single thing I had done wrong!"
And he'll try to get "his" AG to prosecute every single imaginary political and journalistic enemy that he believes has persecuted him. And Barr will do as he's told.
The vaunted "Base" will eat it up like puppies eating poop (a behavior called "coprophagy."
I think I'm going to be sick.

(16,937 posts)but there is NO WAY he enters the election as the "purest president ever!"
Just look at the facts that are known:
1. Paid to keep extramarital affairs quiet (what president ever did that before him?)
2. Large number of staff members arrested, indicted, or charged (most ever in 2 years of office?).
I'm guessing you are looking at things as his own "flock" would - but that is not reality.

(12,592 posts)We all know there's a long list of scandals surrounding him, but he just ignores those and focuses on the fantasy persona he has created in his mind. Not surprisingly, so do his followers.
I should have added the icon.

He's laughing his dictator wanna-be ass off. Has his new Roy Cohn and a rabid base that wouldn't care if he killed somebody on Fifth Avenue. At all.

Flynn lied to me, so I sat on my hands for three weeks, then did something about it! Pence, probably

It seems to me as if someone facing indictment were to say, "Sorry, I'm much too busy to be indicted. Maybe I can squeeze you in six months from now. Get back to me then."
