President Donald Trump held a rally in Green Bay Wisconsin, on Saturday night, mostly touting his work in office, calling out Democrats, name-shaming Democrats and spinning a rolodex of cliches often heard at his rallies.
However, when addressing immigration and trying to shore up the southern border with Mexico, the president recalled his recent banter that he would start sending immigrants who overstayed their visits at holding facilities to the so-called sanctuary cities.
Last month alone, 100,000 illegal immigrants arrived at our borders, placing a massive strain on communities and schools and hospitals and public resources, like nobody has ever seen before, Trump said to the crowd. Now, were sending many of them through sanctuary cities, thank you very much.
Im proud to tell you that was actually my sick idea, the president said.

(CNN)President Donald Trump said on Saturday night that the United States is now sending undocumented migrants to sanctuary cities.
"Now we're sending many of them to sanctuary cities, thank you very much," he told a crowd in Green Bay, Wisconsin. "They ain't too happy about it. I'm proud to tell you that was actually my sick idea."
On Friday in a speech to the National Rifle Association, he said the US is "forced to release" undocumented migrants into the country and that "we give them (sanctuary cities) as many as they can handle."
The Department of Homeland Security has not announced it is sending migrants to sanctuary cities.

(50,303 posts)a) He is proudly claiming (and bragging about) his "sick" idea.
b) He is proclaiming that people are being sent/transported to Sanctuary Cities. (Which for 2 weeks has been disavowed as a proposed idea, let alone an acted upon policy.)
As the Guess Who used to say (s)He's Come Undone.

(57,208 posts)cross the border. And where they're going is almost always going to be a santuary state or city anyways - these are where the jobs are. When shithead .... I'm sorry, President Shithead makes threats like this, we should laugh his fat butt down.
Where he wants to send them by and large is where they are welcomed and want to go, if its not, they made it this far they will go where they want to get to.

The sanctuary jurisdictions are listed below. These cities, counties, and states have laws, ordinances, regulations, resolutions, policies, or other practices that obstruct immigration enforcement and shield criminals from ICE either by refusing to or prohibiting agencies from complying with ICE detainers, imposing unreasonable conditions on detainer acceptance, denying ICE access to interview incarcerated aliens, or otherwise impeding communication or information exchanges between their personnel and federal immigration officers.
A detainer is the primary tool used by ICE to gain custody of criminal aliens for deportation. It is a notice to another law enforcement agency that ICE intends to assume custody of an alien and includes information on the alien's previous criminal history, immigration violations, and potential threat to public safety or security.

(16,875 posts)It's amazing to me that he says all of the outrageous crap he does at these rallies and is NEVER called on the carpet in the press...NEVER. It's just brushed off as Trump appealing to his base. People love to bash Dems in the way our House is investigating this fucker, where's the media's backbone here?? Are they too scared to expose this stuff to the American people? This crazy shit needs broader exposure and needs to be called out for how insane it really is!

(3,250 posts)On CNN, both Don Lemon and Chris Cuomo have called out Trump's lies on the air several times. Chris Cillizza, one of their political correspondents, regularly writes a column after Trump's rallies/speeches/interviews that's titled "40-something craziest lines from Trump's latest speech." It's not as if the entire mainstream media just nods and smiles in response to whatever he says.
BlueStater
(7,596 posts)"Craziest lines" is minimizing how truly despicable and evil this scumbag is and treating him like some amusing sideshow freak instead of the threat to our entire way of life that he actually is. His lies are dangerous and are going to get people killed.
Jedi Guy
(3,250 posts)You can take issue with the title, but the meat of the article points out lies and links to sources to show the truth. He also outright says, "This is an extraordinarily dangerous statement" when Trump talks about the press being the enemies of the people. Saying that he's "minimizing" Trump's bullshit is incorrect, in my opinion. YMMV.
Edited to add: Here's a link to the most recent one from Cillizza, posted on Friday. [link:https://www.cnn.com/2019/04/26/politics/donald-trump-sean-hannity-fox-news/index.html
He uses the word "outrageous" in the title, and in several spots he outright refutes things Trump said in the interview, such as the claim that his campaign was spied on by the feds. In several spots he provides links to back up his refutations of what Trump says. I'm not sure what else you want him to do here.

(16,875 posts)Most of the regular public isn't watching Cumo or Maddow or Lawrence....you're not seeing this being called out on the nightly news. It's just not being addressed and I would argue that the vast majority of the public has no idea what he said last night.
Jedi Guy
(3,250 posts)The point is that on networks like CNN and MSNBC, Trump's bullshit is being called out for what it is. The media is not just sitting there and allowing him to say whatever he wants without being challenged.
The vast majority of the public not knowing what he said last night isn't the media's fault, either. The information is out there, it's not as if it's difficult to go check out CNN.com. The public being disengaged and uninterested in politics is an altogether different issue that has nothing to do with what the media says.

(37,748 posts)It would be somewhat more valid if the numbers of call-outs vs. ignoring him were contrasted and compared. By your metric, we can say "he tells the truth quite frequently..." as there is no objective data provided to perform analysis, simply anecdotes and examples.
'Quite frequently' being weasel words in this instance.

Are you?
Because every news outlet I see or read is calling him out.
Lay off the press. Reporters stand between the people and tyranny every freaking day.

(82,383 posts)Knowing most cities are blue, they wanted to create hypocrisy and invented some city people who objected. But they didn't. They said fine, send them here; they are welcome. Trumpers projected their own feelings onto the people in the cities.

(50,562 posts)You do of course realize this has the potential to backfire on Trump in ways unimaginable.
Sanctuary cities have two things in abundance: low-wage jobs they cant fill, and empty commercial buildings. If I was the mayor of...oh, lets say Seattle...I would go to the owners of these buildings with a proposition: we will waive taxes and pay you a reasonable rent if you let us turn your old warehouse into a barracks. We put beds in them, and rent the beds to refugees and the homeless on a strict no drugs, alcohol, violence, or crimes, cross the line once and youre evicted contract. Rent will be just enough to pay expenses. We set up public transit to get people to work and we work with employers to get all these folks into jobs - which the refugees want.
This is Trumps worst nightmare. He thinks that by dumping a huge number of refugees into sanctuary cities he can force them to stop being sanctuary cities. Those cities could turn that shit around on Trump and make him look even dumber than he is. Thank you, Mr. Trump. Ever since you decided to bestow 1500 hard working refugees on my city, Ive gotten out of the supermarket in record time. The food in restaurants has never tasted better. You can get a new roof done in six months not two years. Everythings been great now that theres no worker shortage!
