Stacey Abrams, last year's Democratic nominee for Georgia governor, will announce Monday or Tuesday whether she plans to run for the U.S. Senate in 2020, two sources familiar with her plans told ABC News Friday.
Abrams has been in the national spotlight since running a competitive 2018 campaign against Republican Brian Kemp, losing the governor's race by a narrow margin. In February, she gave the Democratic Party's response to President Donald Trump's State of the Union address.
Abrams reportedly has been mulling whether to challenge incumbent GOP U.S. Sen. David Perdue's re-election bid next year or mount a bid for the presidency.

(67 posts)I still think AOC is the best, she has such brilliant insight. GD Repukes screwed Stacey out of the governorship with their usual racist voter suppression tactics.

(7,530 posts)She's younger with a long potential career arc and has time to build her resume. She could do some great work in Congress.

During the next decade, he worked with Haggar Clothing, and Reebok. He was unable to correct problems at Pillowtex, which he joined in 2002, leaving after nine months with a large buyout. Perdue next worked for Dollar General, where he did achieve a turnaround (I'll bet he did!), and later for the Gujarat Heavy Chemicals Ltd., whose interests in India included textile mills. Before entering politics, Perdue set up a global trading firm in Atlanta, Georgia."

(6,207 posts)Stacy, if your listening, I hope you get some national exposure as a Senator before trying to run for President.
You need to create a national identity, and get some experience in the Legislature first.
There are too many great candidates out there already who have more experience and more national name recognition.

Go, Stacey!

(10,054 posts)While it is a very slim chance that we can flip the Senate blue like we did the House, a Senator Stacey Abrams would certainly help the effort!
