Gregory Craig, ex-Obama White House counsel, expects to be charged in relation to work with Manafort

Source: Washington Post

Attorneys for former White House Counsel Gregory B. Craig said Wednesday that he expects to face federal charges in the coming days in relationship to legal work he did for the Ukrainian government in 2012.

The expected indictment — which his attorneys called “a misguided abuse of prosecutorial discretion” — stems from work Craig did with GOP lobbyist Paul Manafort on behalf of the Ukrainian Ministry of Justice in 2012.

At the time, Craig was a partner at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom, the law firm he joined after ending his tenure as counsel to President Barack Obama. Manafort, the former campaign chairman to President Trump, pleaded guilty last year to charges related to his Ukraine lobbying.

In a statement, attorneys William W. Taylor III and William Murphy said they expect Craig, 74, will be indicted by the U.S. attorney’s office in Washington at the request of the Justice Department’s national security division. That could not be independently corroborated. A spokesman for the U.S. attorney did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The charges may be entirely legit. I have no idea.

The real purpose though, is to drag in the name of Obama and then make this person seem like he was as close to Obama as Cohen was to Trump.

It's about making the case that "everyone does it - see, Obama did it too!"

from January 2009 through January 2010 - his work for Manafort was in 2012? So, after he left the White House.

He also worked for the Clinton WH for a year from 1997-98.

I'm not disputing anything you posted. I see it. I read it. I believe it as fact.

I'm based in reality. Trump supporters are not.

POX Noise is NOT going to represent the facts as clearly as you did. They will simply say he was WH Council during Obama's term. They will not bother to note the fact it was only a year and that his work for Manafort was two years in distance from that.

They will present it in a manner that makes it look as if he were crucial to every decision Obama made. As if he were closely advising Obama and Hillary on Benghazi and Uranium One.

MAGAts will eat it up.

I think it's just a case of some of these bigshot law firms/lawyers being very mercenary and greed focused.

He had to go with Manafort.
Such a bad choice.
Oh, that was after Obama.
