Flake opens up about threats against him and his family
Source: The Hill
Former Sen. Jeff Flake (R-Ariz.) said there are "several" threats made against him and his family from Trump supporters being investigated because of his criticisms of the president.
An unidentified man carrying a rifle scope had gone to three different Arizona locations associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in an attempt to find him, Flake told The Guardian in an interview released Wednesday.
It was a man living out of his car. He told someone he had just attended a Trump rally, Flake, a devout Mormon, told the outlet. He noted that the man arrived at another event two weeks ago.

Flake told the outlet that there are several threats against him, including ones that listed his children, their address and included links to beheading videos.

(12,157 posts)What is conclusive is the man is showing up and the use of the rifle scope may be a non lethal threat similar to putting cross hairs on a picture of a political figure. It's been years since I had practical experience with scopes and rifles but I seem to remember that remounting a scope requires it to be sighted in again.
Back to this man. He is sending a message - whether there is anything that law enforcement can do about it is probably not. There would have to be a direct connection between the threats made and this individual. I don't want Flake or any person to be harmed. And there are a lot of nuts with lots of guns. It is a sad world we live in.

(37,648 posts)I remember arguments like yours all too well for years, as wives or ex-wives filed reports about exes stalking them. "That they go to outside your work place is legal, lady. It's not conclusive of anything." Lots of women were killed, had acid thrown on them, beaten up badly, until it was gradually, state by state, made a law.
From one viewpoint, it isn't "conclusive" of anything, directly. Then there's common sense. Threats. Followed by man following him around in car. Followed by man getting out of car with rifle scope. Followed by more threats. Man follows him to various places, including church. Doesn't take an Einstein to figure out what's going on.
But I don't think he was arrested.

I'm sorry for his family. For him I have no sympathy. None.

(5,134 posts)Just as the Mueller report really garnered steam, I noticed this once they got their hands on Bannon. One has to wonder about it. However, I think I have a plan to deal with all those rabid, idiotic Trump supporters. I want the F.B.I. to investigate anyone who was recorded wearing a MAGA hat, supporting trump, or threatening anyone. )This is dependent on Trump being charged with something, but we know it is going to happen, as he is an unabashed criminal who just commits white collar crimes so he can seem 'respectable'). Each and every one of them should be waiting for that knock at the door. Domestic terrorism, aggravated assault across state lines, transmitting threats, etc, each one should be charged and made to explain themselves. (Like they have a rational explanation for the last two years). I mean, it will never happen, as I seldom see anyone held accountable for much of anything these days, but one can dream...

(54,405 posts)Obviously, it has to be REALLY unnerving, since people who write unhinged notes like that are often armed to the teeth, and are often capable of carrying out their fantasies.
Second, it is wholly undeserved, since despite Flake's occasional verbal criticisms of Trump, on key issues, Flake voted with Trump EVERY TIME. The MAGA hats and their telescopic sights are planning nothing other than friendly fire.

(14,961 posts)him and his family stay safe. The beheading videos had to be terrifying for him and the fact that his children are being targeted as well is a very scary.
All because he disagreed with Trump, he still voted with him on everything.
We are in new frightening territory right now.
