Omar faces backlash from Muslim and Jewish constituents 04:01
(CNN)A political organization closely aligned with the Republican establishment is launching an advertising campaign this week to take on freshman Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota over her comments earlier this year that were widely condemned as anti-Semitic.
....................................
Calling Omar's seat on the House Foreign Affairs Committee "inappropriate," the ads call on House D
emocrats to "stand up to hate" and remove her from the committee, an effort Republicans in the House have pushed for for months.
The crop of ads suggests the beginning of an effort by the GOP establishment to make Omar, along her fellow outspoken freshmen Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Rashida Tlaib, the new boogeywomen of the Democratic Party. One Republican operative compared these younger progressives to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, who for years has appeared in GOP ads as an effective tool against Democratic candidates................................
This campaign, says an AAN official, may later expand to targeting other Democratic House members over Omar's comments.................................

(6,918 posts)The GOP's imaginary battle. Where I live nobody gives a rat's ass about her, nor concerned with the intricacies of a Congressional committee. They are the only people who care.
So the real goal is to create an issue where there is none.
She represents her district, they elected her, national Republicans should just STFU. Trying to make anyone beyond the deluded 29% informed about her is a waste of time and money.
So by all means, GOP, $pend away. carry on until you are as bankrupt as a Trump casino.

(35,077 posts)Dual Loyalty Is A Slur ― One Muslims Face All The Time
Earlier this month, top lawmakers from both parties and a slew of big-name pundits castigated Rep. Ilhan Omar (D-Minn.) for suggesting that lobbying influence pushes American politics toward an unquestioning allegiance to Israel. The outrage persisted this week: Nearly every major speaker at the high-profile American Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) conference referenced the congresswoman. Never mind that Omar didnt point to the Jewish community in particular or that many of Israels staunchest allies in Congress are Christian. Omar, her critics claimed, had advanced the anti-Semitic trope that Jewish Americans are more loyal to Israel than to the United States.
Omars foes were right about one thing: Suggesting that members of a religious or ethnic minority are guilty of dual loyalty is an inherently bigoted and dangerous charge. Its also one that Muslim Americans ― especially those who, like Omar, dare to run for political office ― face every day.
The Muslim Brotherhood is now part of Congress. New Reps. like @IlhanMN @RashidaTlaib are known as #AntiSemitic and Anti #Israel. Moreover, they both are representatives of #CAIR and #MuslimBrotherhood and their values clash with American values, prominent pro-Israel donor Adam Milstein wrote on Twitter last week. He was trying to link Omar and Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) to the Council on American Islamic Relations, a civil rights group, and to the transnational Muslim Brotherhood movement, and his words drew significant attention because of his own ties to AIPAC. (He backed out of speaking at the groups event following backlash to his post.)

If this is truly that nasty, then why are people accusing Muslims of having "dual loyalties" and not receiving quite the same backlash as Omar?
It's clear American political culture doesn't think it's THAT nasty if people can do it to certain groups and get away with it.
